In ancient china, there was a small, mysterious country, called Yan.And Yan, it was filled with girls blessed with extraodinary powers.
They were the nine-tail foxes.
Lead by the Empress of Yan, each tail with brilliance, ever changing, able to mutate into any living creatures..

Sorry, I have an ever growing obsession with elves, and Drow is one of my favorite elven races.
Ahem...
Now that I have set the rabid fan girl squeeeeingness aside...
The way you have organized the various creatures is nothing less than brilliant! I love how each clearly has its own personality and life, yet is part of the whole. I would have to struggle for hours in order to obtain such a balance before even starting on the coloring.
I can get lost in the vivid details!
I have heard of the nine-tails-foxes before, but this is the first I have heard of Yan and the empress. I am very interested in mythology. Where might I find more information on her, or maybe some pieces of literature showcasing such myths? Can you refer me to any specific books or authors?

it's called "Shan Hai Jing" in chinese.. an ancient text telling stories about myths creatures and countries.. author is anonymous(??) yeap.. shan actually means mountain, hai actually means sea, jing is like... text, they use it esp for something people memorize? bible text etc.. =X
there isn't much talking of Yan either

I would have to say that I dislike the piece as a whole- I just dislike the fact that are several different creatures in the picture at once. I know why you put them there- I read the caption. However, the background landscape is very nice - it adds to the picture but doesnt fill it with too much color. Each illustrastion of a single character is also very well done- The dragons are beautiful and i like the oni screaming out behind her. I just dont like the look of all these things put together on top of each other.

Great dipiction of chinese fork lore. I loved what you chose for the tails, mixing in different types of fantasy, ie the elf, the bird kind of resembles Quetzalcoatl well at least from the final fantasy games anyways, and the demon/orger. Good job

wow! i love how you took your inspiration into other cultures and history! you can obvious tell that you put great work into this-the art itself, and it's concept.the composition is awesome to boot, and the idea of it is of course, fanatasic! the uses of colors can make anyone faint! lol XD
