Description "The Comedian" from "Watchmen"

Based on his movie appearance, I did this for (it's his birthday, say happy birthday to him dammit, lol!)

If you've read Watchmen or seen the movie, this dude needs no introduction

The actor who played him (name escapes me) in the movie did an AMAZING job, I have a problem deciding whether him or Rorschach was the better performance (in my opinion, lol)

Can't wait for the director's cut of the movie when it comes out in July!!

thankya, I'll try mah best :-P

I'm actually gonna have something with a BACKGROUND on the weekend (I've shocked myself! lol) :-P

Markside In reply to KrisSmithDW [2009-05-28 09:02:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, backgrounds are tricky. I generally finish the character and they're looking pretty cool, and then I think, hmmmn... should they actually be somewhere? And then end up cobbling together some sort of scenery.

Hope your background excursion goes well!

KrisSmithDW In reply to Markside [2009-05-29 07:05:57 +0000 UTC]

lol yeah thats usually me, character first, then half assed background :-P The one I'm doing this weekend is the OPPOSITE. I've done the background, now I have to do a character from scratch to go with it :-P

My problem was I wanted simple backgrounds, but they looked TOO simple. Thats fine for characters, but if you ever notice in cartoons the characters are simple but the backgrounds usually have like a painted look or whatnot. SO I think I've come up with reasonable attempt in Flash using simple gradients and blurs. Now I just gotta figure out how to replicate it in Photoshop :-P

Markside In reply to KrisSmithDW [2009-05-29 07:29:54 +0000 UTC]

Cool. Hope it works out. I always find that blur is really cool for making pretty over simple backgrounds look acceptable.

KrisSmithDW In reply to Markside [2009-05-29 08:04:34 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, blur is like my saving grace now

Also I found doing it all just with just colours and shading with NO lines makes it look better too!

Noted.

I'm definitely interested to see how you apply all these techniques!

I'm just hoping "Director's Cut" translates into "All the footage that was filmed"

KrisSmithDW In reply to NuclearConvoy [2009-05-25 11:50:58 +0000 UTC]

I know it is 25 mins longer. Its according to Snyder in includes the Hollis Mason death stuff and some more "connective tissue" it is the originally intended Snyder version, so I'm curious to see what else has been put back in.

I was abivalent over the death of Hollis Mason. Yes, I was disappointed to see it cut, but I didn't want to see it because it sort of rings reality home a bit too much of thugs breaking into an old guy's house and killing him....

KrisSmithDW In reply to Lewis-Paul [2009-05-26 09:04:54 +0000 UTC]

did something like this happen to someone you knew?

They only need to put it back in there if its effects on Dan are put in as well. If it has no effect on Dan in the director's cut (cuz it aint noticable in the theatrical unless its edited out too), there's no need to put it back in.

NuclearConvoy In reply to KrisSmithDW [2009-05-25 11:53:24 +0000 UTC]

Well, 25 minutes more is a start, but I could have sworn that I read somewhere that there was about an hour of cut footage...

KrisSmithDW In reply to NuclearConvoy [2009-05-26 09:01:54 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure m'self, I'll I've read is that the Director's cut runs about 3 hours or so instead of the 2 and a 1/2-ish of the theatrical, and eventually there will be a version with the Black Freighter stuff added in bringing it up to about 3 and a 1/2-ish hours.

NuclearConvoy In reply to KrisSmithDW [2009-05-26 17:39:17 +0000 UTC]

Is it odd of me to want a 5 hour version?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KrisSmithDW In reply to NuclearConvoy [2009-05-26 23:36:01 +0000 UTC]

nope, nothing odd about that cuz I want a 12 hour version :-P

Like, a cartoon. Sorta the same mood/drawing style as the newer Batman ones. *_*

Too bad all the blood and Byron's drinking would be left out... And Watchmen's not the same without those. >> Not to mention the homosexual undertones *is a hopeless fangurl*

KrisSmithDW In reply to OKami-hu [2009-05-31 09:05:45 +0000 UTC]

Well, if they did it over at HBO they could do it "R" rated and keep all that in. Didja ever see the "Spawn" animated series they did on HBO back in the late 1990s? Makes Watchmen look suitable for kids to watch, it was so hardcore :-P

OKami-hu In reply to KrisSmithDW [2009-05-31 10:34:13 +0000 UTC]

There's an animated series of Spawn...?! O__O OMGhavetotorrentit.

Guess it's the fact that we don't have HBO. >>

Holy cow, so it's even doable. oo Let's kidnap Alan Moore and beat the permission outta' him.

KrisSmithDW In reply to OKami-hu [2009-05-31 10:47:39 +0000 UTC]

they even got Keith David (voice of Goliath on Gargoyles) to voice Spawn, its awesome. It was three seasons with i think 6 episodes each. Very "R" rated, lol.

If you want a taste of the show, check these 2 clips out from the 1st season:
