TRANSFORMERS: IGNITION - Optimus Prime (Robot Mode)Turnaround of the design of Optimus Prime's robot mode. I figured everyone would like a better look at him since you only get to see his back view in the teaser poster.
You'll notice that the arm blades he has in the poster are collapsed and folded up into his arms to be a bit more compact. The arm design was inspired by the TF:Classics toy of Optimus from a few years back (2006 maybe?)
He does have a rifle, but I haven't finished designing it yet.
His faceplate does NOT retract. I have nothing against Primes having retractable faceplates (and after the "Let's find out" moment near the end of Dark of the Moon, it's TOTALLY awesome) but I'm going for a bit of a nostaliga bent with this Prime, so his stays on. He does have a face/mouth behind it, but it's kinda like a Judge Dredd thing where it never comes off and you never see his face.
Well, "technically" you dont. You do get to see Ultra Magnus' face and he IS Optimus' twin...

I like the aesthetic choices you went with this design, like modernizing the G1 version and combining it with Animated. I would definitely get a toy of this if it existed.

This is the PROPER way on how you make an original design while staying true to the original. I wished that Hasbro understood that. All they understand is $$$ and they don't care who rapes the Transformers franchise as long as they cash in at the end of the day.

Just don't do it like I did and give up on it, I've been trying to get mine on the go for YEARS (like at least 5 or 6 years just for this project, not to mention the years before that I tried to put a TF comic together and failed for one reason or another) and its finally taken me until now to get going on it.
Go on. Get working. DO IT.

I already got some ideas for the beginning anyway.
In the first "episode", Optimus and his team finds out the Allspark is on Earth (bet you saw this coming) and they land there to search for it, but they disguise their ship as a space shuttle first (hint hint). While Electrostorm (the train) explores the nearby city's train yard, he unintentionally attracts the attention of a human and is forced to run off WITH the human in tow as Barricade and Swindle found him. Also, Optimus, Arcee, and Springer head his way and find out the danger Electrostorm is in, but are unaware of the human until after they transform into robot mode to run off Swindle and Barricade. So they're found out by the human, along with at least 9 others later on.

In another episode, the Autobots help some of the humans with their science projects for school. Later, Electrostorm (the train) finds a hidden energon mine (it's more of a place where Transformers hid their energon supplies) near a railway yard and "recruits" some nearby engines to help him get it to the Autobot base.

It definitely helps give the arms more bulk for an armored appearance, espeially since it gives a logical place for his blades to go when they're in storage.

Very true, it felt (in my design anyway) that he needed a little bit extra on his arms to offset the smokestack shoulders, so it worked like a charm

Dreamwave comics. The original Ultra Magnus toy was a white repaint of the Optimus Toy, but his trailer turned into big armor that he clipped into and made him into the Ultra Magnus you know. The cartoons and comics ignored this and just made him transform from truck to super robot mode. When Dreamwave had the licence, they made it that Ultra Magnus was wearing body armor and it got blown off revealling the white OPtimus repaint underneath, and then revealled that they were infact twin brothers. This hasn't been repeated in any of the TF series since then.

Yeah, Animated was great. I loved that wee phase of everyone and their granny doing Animated versions of every character under the sun. I must be one of the few people that actually loves the aesthetic of the Prime cartoon. I love some of the innovative ways they have utilised kibble to look like elements of clothing. Very cool.

Agreed! The design work is fantastic! Well, most of it is. I am not a big fan of Prime's design or Bumblebees. I love Wheeljack's though. He looks class and his fighter ship is cool as!!

Wheeljack's frickin AWESOME looking, and for some reason I really dig Soundwave, its just the weird spindly wing-arms he has, very unique design (and a bad ass character to boot).

Soundwave's design is certainly cool! Probably my fav Decepticon. I like what they did with it and it's one of many things that TFP gets right in my opinion.
