Transformers: IGNITION - Spike Witwicky, Sparkplug Witwicky & Carly Spencer

I have always said, "if you don't want the fans to totally hate the humans in a new TF series, use the originals. There's always an Optimus Prime in every incarnation..."

These were my designs for Spike, Sparkplug and Carly from early 2012 before the final overhaul I did during development and even though there was somewhat of a change to the look of the Transformers between then and now, I'm very happy with how these turned out and am keeping them the same for the series proper.

Sparkplug runs an auto repair shop like he did in the 1980's Marvel comics so his tan shirt from the cartoon is now a shirt from his repair shop. I gave him work boots, but made them a tan colour that is not that far off from a yellow tinge as a callback to his yellow rubber boots from the original cartoon.

I didn't want Spike to be wearing the identical thing his Dad was wearing, as well as the fact that he doesn't work at his Dad's shop, but at the same time I didn't want to deviate too far. My compromise was to have him wearing one of his Dad's repair shop shirts as an overshirt. And he has a grey shirt underneath so that it's not too far off from white, but isn't identical to Sparkplug's plain white T. And as a throwback to his yellow rubber boots, he's wearing yellow psuedo-Chucks (yes, there are yellow Chucks similar to this).

Carly... oh god, what the hell was she wearing in the G1 cartoon... SO. EIGHTIES. Guh. So I basically just turned that into something that looked like real clothes not whatever pantsuit from hell she was wearing. Carly didn't have a last name in the G1 cartoon, so I borrowed the one they gave her in the Dark of the Moon movie.
