Description And here it is. Finally finished. My first oil painting. I fixed the Emperor's hands because they looked fake. And I added some more radiance to the lightning bolts. You can see previous stages of the painting in process in my gallery. Thanks for viewing.

No, that is Luke watching Vader get electrocuted. I want Luke being electrocuted and crying out in pain.

Rest assured, my master, he's getting some bolts up his bum too.

No, I saw the movie. Luke isn't being electrocuted anymore by this point. I want an anime-style drawing of Luke being electrocuted, crying out in pain, and possibly enjoying it.

I don't think I've ever seen this particular scene done in this type of media--is it oils or acrylics...(either one makes this all the more wonderful--they're so difficult to use!)? All I know is that it's marvelous: the radiance of the lightning, the composition, the "ghost" of Vader's humanity, glowing through the hard, soulless armor he was wearing. You've done a masterful job with this, including all the important elements: the vengeful Emperor, Luke, watching Vader sacrifice his own life to save his, and Vader, finally breaking the bondage of the Dark Side by killing his dark master... A beautiful piece, and it's going into my favorites!

Thank you so much for your great comment and for the fav! It's entirely oil, I've never used acrylic paints before. And actually I'm an amateur because this was my first attempt with oils and my second attempt on a canvas. It was quite difficult in the beginning but when I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed working with oils. Took me a while to finish though, because I would often go back to details that hadn't come out the way I wanted them and redo them. Like, for example, the biggest problem was Vader's helmet/skull. Originally I was planning to leave the helmet version of his face, but then I decided that his skull being visible would be much more symbolic and dramatic. So I did like three skull-attempts until finally I got the one I wanted. The same thing happened with the Emperor's hands and the lightning bolts and sometimes it all felt like a total mess. I struggled for like 2 or 3 months but I was happy with the result. The experience made me fall in love with oils and I'm currently using them for my new canvas.

Kudos on all your perseverence in getting to just what you wanted with this piece--it definitely paid off! I've always had dreadful difficulty with paints/colors of any kind, so I truly admire those who can use them with such wonderful results! Keep on going--you have a gift for it!

Well done!

KristianTsvetanov In reply to MillenniumFalsehood [2012-08-09 20:13:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Well, I can't say I found it difficult because I was used to painting with tempera before I started it. It wasn't that big of a difference to me. The only thing that bothered me was that it took a loooooong time to finish (more than 2 months) because I found out how slowly oils dry.

The scene right before this is my favorite. Favorite part in the whole saga? That part I just mentioned, Lapti Nek, Luke vs Vader on Cloud City (special mention goes to Luke shrieking when his hand is cut off and Luke's reaction to the reveal that Vader is his father), Tosche Station (both Luke's mention of it and the deleted scene), anything with Boba Fett, and Luke's hilariously narmy reaction to Obi-Wan dying. HE SOUNDS MORE ANNOYED THAN SAD!
