Description
So I've been having a pretty great time having a sort of creative collaboration with around the design of my beetle-dragon hybrid monster Chigon . You can see his takes on the design here and his evo idea here . Above are some sketches I did while contemplating the design and his ideas. The first is the original sketch I made that I inked and posted. Next to it is a slightly cleaned up version. The two beside that are newer ideas I had, heavily influenced by all the Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth I've been playing. Beneath those are my various iterations of ideas I had for the evolved stage, playing with horn ideas and what not. The evo intial design seemed very kaiju to me so I tried to tone those elements down a little. At the bottom is a hypothetical final first form to second form evolution. The design itself seems to incorporate elements of digimon, pokemon, and kaiju so I dunno where to really place it haha. I think 's evo design is more distinct from the prevo which I like, mine just looks like Chigon grew up a bit haha. What do you guys think?Related content

Dang, that's a really cool design! I'd certainly want this dude on my team, I dig the kaiju influence as well.

Oh man these look as mean as anything and ready to take some names, I love it.
The top left and middle right evos are my favourites, i'm a sucker for the hunched posture and those arms look great, like someone is going to receive a sound beating. As far as horns go I really like the knobbly version the two leftmost designs have, it ties nicely to Chigons horn but adds character and is still sturdy. Incidentally I love those neck plates, they're really cool.
It's also interesting to see how minor changes to Chigon can really digi-fy its overall look.

:] I'm glad you like them haha. Yeh I enjoyed playing with various horn iterations. The serrated/knobby horn design really felt savage. I wanted the long arms to almost be like mantis shrimp arms that would just deliver heavy impact. I've very much enjoyed this artistic exchange :] so rarely do I get to engage creatively with other artists here.
It is isn't it? Couple of proportion changes and some new eyes and bam now it looks like a digimon all of the sudden. Its fun to mess around with haha.

I definitely got a mantis shrimp vibe from those arms.
It is good to talk about this sort of stuff, i'm always open to it if anyone asks questions about any of mine and if I leave a comment I like to mention what it is about the design I like. The whole draw of creature design like this is the process of what features from what source do I tweak and use to create something that fills this niche I want to fill, and talking like this you get different takes on the same idea, much like we have with Chigon and it's really cool to see and it has been really fun.

Agreed :] perhaps we should do it more often? haha I have a beetle/triceratops hybrid that was meant for a game that has since been shut down so I may re purpose it as a digimon and I''m curious what you'll have to say on it.

Didn't realize how overdesigned the thing was... and hastey work and bad colors made it worse. Don't have the heart to post the thing so here is a stash link:

Well first things first, it definitely looks like Digimon. That face just screams it. I'd say that gives you leeway in the overdesigned department since that isn't unusual for a lot of Digimon, but nothing really stands out as too over the top with this guy, the end of the tail maybe.
I wouldn't know about colours but he looks like a big watermelon to me and I mean that as a positive.
Finally, when you suggested the idea I had a cool thought about the horns on the pronotum going through the shield to act as the horns of the triceratops. I then realised where I got this idea from... a digimon ...

Well I'm glad it's not so over the top that it can't work haha. I think maybe a tweak here and there to make the colors less erratic and things would be fine.
That's an awesome digimon! I had no idea he existed
