Description Special little comic I did for my Snails ask blog Ask-Glittershell: [link]

A lot of love and twice as many layers went into my first real comic. I'm quite proud of it. The comic itself is narrated by Snails, and sorta preludes the blog and gives a bit of insight into what the blogs story is about.
I'll let the comic itself do the rest of the talking.

(Yay EQD! [link] )

[Note]: Some people were mentioning this, it's not about dyslexia. He just really struggles with academics. The book is a visual gag etc.

(If you feel so inclined to share and post this comic places, please be my guest!)

I have no idea the message your trying to get accrossed my friend, it is either too alien a concept for me or your just being too subtle.

The version of Snails I've developed for my blog (and this comic) suffers from gender identity issues. This comic is essentially him explaining them in his own words using an assortment of metaphors.

The comic itself sorta preludes the blog, in that it explains his behavior and disposition without giving any of the story away.

That was my intent, anyway. You're free to interpret it how you will!

I loved this so much. I have many friends in my life that are TransGender and seeing this made me... well, made me /feel/ for them. Its very simplified here, but I understood what it was about right away. Thank you so much for this, and for giving me another tumblr to follow.

Mah feels, all of them....i got this on a personal level, i understand what its like to not know your place, not to fit in, its like i speak a different language no one understands me *except for one very special person, my truest and oldest friend, god i love her*, to like different things get a joke differently, have a different way of thinking, it sucks feeling alien in your own skin, i say hello and before its understood, they are already saying good bye....i always thought my gender, sexuality and identity were all fluid, i don't live in the black and white but that means....i cant read between the lines

Umm, nice comic and all, but I don't know how long this Snails fan-persona has been around but I don't get it. In my opinion it doesn't at all match you know...his actual character. Especially when considering the poem on which his character is based on, about snips and snails and puppy dog tails... and being the quintessential little boy. Just saying.

The fan-persona of Snails being a closet transgender is one I created fairly recently, actually. (The blog started mid October)

There's plenty of off character interpretations and fan-sonas of characters that don't fit in the show, but that's what makes them fannon!

I drew my inspiration for it from a wide range of wonderful places, and created an alternative version of an otherwise unloved character to turn him into something people might be able to relate to, enjoy, and maybe even open up and learn about a subject that's difficult to talk about.

I like to think I'm starting to succeed in that, but it's still got a long way to go!

its that fact, that his name is a reference to the poem that is essentially what boys are made of. but in this, he doesnt feel that he is a male, and is pained to not know where and how he fits into society. Note when it says he sometimes hides the purple sock under the orange sock to make his friends smile. im sorry, but for me its all written in black and white and nothing between the lines, but its hard for people who dont understand to actually care enough to understand

Me no get it~? I never liked Snails. I don't get this comic..........But do you get this? You want to buy something that cost 97$ but you don't have money. Your dad and mom each give you 50$ you buy that something you get 3$ in change you keep 1 and give each of your parents 1$ so now you owe the 49 and 49. 49+49=98 plus your dollar is 99 what happened to that other dollar?

AnarchisThinker In reply to zombieinferno32 [2013-05-01 11:17:44 +0000 UTC]

I did not read that properly, I apologise.

There is a 'mistake' at the end. If I give a dollar each to my parents, to justify for the cost, it is rightfully subtracted from their 'debt'. However, if I owed any 'debt' to myself and I kept the dollar, then I should subtract the dollar from the total amount, so it is 49+49-1=97.

Nothing happens to the other dollar, it is a 'mistake' that is within the question itself.

You 'split' the dollar and give your parents an extra fifty cents each on top of the dollar you gave them.

I think the author is using the socks as a metaphor for how snails acts. perhaps he feels more comfortable acting feminine when hes alone (he likes the purple sock in private(purple a feminine color, he feels more comfortable as acting like a girl?)), but he feels expected to act more Masculine because hes a young boy (puts on the orange sock in public(orange matches his coat, or biological gender?)). because he thought no one would accept him he became ashamed of himself and thought to commit suicide, but was to afraid to go through with it.
