Description Here I show how to paint a watercolor portrait based on a photo. I reinterprete here the style of Egon Schiele. This art of painting could be used for short-time practices and investigating new styles.
Big final result of the portrait is here: [link]

I am happy that it is helpful! I think you have painted a great portrait, I especially like strong vibrant tones and their well-balanced combination. And you are progressing very fast! Good luck in your studies!

Thank you! I've just taking course for 2 months though It's really helpful indeed. Do you make other watercolor tutorials, like painting and landscape? I suggest you to do some

Well, I am thinking about a topic for another tutorial. What would you like to know about painting as a watercolor beginner if I am allowed to define you so?

Lovely! The best drummer in the world in the medium I'm just getting into. I just started with water colours and I'm still clinging to landscapes, but ultimately I want to do water colour portraits, something i usually do in graphite. What a sweet coincidence, thank you for the tutorial

You are welcome! I would like to improve my landscapes, since I spent years only on mastering my portraits. Of course, many of them were of the best drummer in the world

I love how you use greens and pinks for shading the face. How do you know what to put and where to put it? I`m intimidated with painting the face with different colours because it might end up shitty.

First, let me encourage you: don't be afraid of shitty pictures. On the way to your own style and great skills you must go through it. And everybody did, except some genies, which we are not talking about here. Second, practical advice: try to free you palette. In my case, I went through a crazy phase when I painted grass scarlett red, but after that it will normalize for sure. I think, the watercolor is of great help here, because the colors are somewhat opaque and you are not scared much of blues and reds on the skin. To do something like this in gouache ([link] ) is much more tricky. Third, a great exercise: try to paint a face using only one or two colors, e.g. green and orange, mixing them only with white (or water) and black. I think, you will learn a lot.
If I can help you more, please, ask!
