Oh yes, I'd felt it'd be a sin to not have Ekimu actually wearing his Mask of Creation and then photographing it for you all to see.
Although, why the green eyes, I wonder, as apposed to the blue eyes he has in the cartoon?

I love that he has the Mask of Creation but the body is too short. I thought that he would be the same height as the Toa.

I'm not sure if early is the word, if they're basically releasing it after the summer when it is the "summer" wave. The only Bionicle sets I can find in stores are only from the "winter" wave. If anything, I think they're late. I heard the sets won't be released where I'm at until August. That's the end of summer and the beginning of Fall (Autumn if that how you call it).

Thanks. Fortunately I saw the sets their yesterday at Wal-Mart. I think they got the sets in a restock because the Lego shelves were almost empty before they got the sets. I was able to buy the "Mask Maker and Skull Grinder" set (It very well could be Kulta, because none of the other sets had specific names, and they didn't name Ekimu for the set).
I also checked up on the Bionicle website, and I've seen that they updated it. I was reading up on the lore of the new wave. They don't have story videos yet, but I think I know how this will go. These Skull villains are going to occupy and fight the toa in the Ancient city. There are various areas like the Arena, Graveyard, and Forge. The Skull Grinder (or Kulta) looks like the leader, but it seems that there are multiple Skull Scorpios and Skull Warriors (like how there were hordes of Visorak and Bohrok). The new masks seem to be the same golden masks released with the toa, but with some of their power drained (which is why they're semi-transparent). There are instructions for the combiner sets of Ekimu, Skull Grinder, and Skull Scorpio, as well as what looks to be a combiner for the Skull Basher, Skull Slicer, and Skull Warrior sets. It looks like Ekimu will join the Toa in a fight against the Skull enemies inside the Ancient City itself for the Mask of Creation.
But what really intrigued me was the description for the Forge:
"Once Okoto's most powerful place. Many, many great masks have been forged here; masks of strength, of speed and a thousand other miraculous powers. However, since Makuta's betrayal, the forge has been cold."
"Masks of strength, of speed..." caught my eye because Onua and Pohatu originally had such masks, and they're both in this generation of Bionicle. It makes me wonder if the toa still have their original mask powers. It also seems that they may still add more masks of that sort rather than masks that only amplify elemental powers.

Yeah, my mind was blown when I found that out too. I don't know how connected this generation is to the old generation, but I wonder if the Forge is linked to the old generation in some way. It said the Forge was once Okoto's most powerful place, even though Okoto has a temple of time. Then it also said many, "many great masks" were made there and that they had "a thousand other miraculous powers." It makes me wonder if many of the masks in the old gen have their origin in the Forge.

I think that's one of the most likely explanations. Because even if Lego completely severs this new gen with the old gen, it could still fit as another alternate universe in Bionicle. The Bionicle multiverse is kind of like the DC multiverse except for the inclusion of the Speed Force and other DC lore.

I know, even the first movie decided to include the Bohrok as frozen victims to Kopaka's power (which surprisingly looked a lot more like the set builds that everything else in the movie).
Whatever the Lego company chooses to do with the new gen, I just hope it has the depth and history that the old gen had. They have some of the old elements like the Toa's amnesia and the mysterious new island of Okoto. They just have to play with that and exploit the mysteries while adding new ones. The old gen waited years before revealing the origin of the island of Mata Nui, the Toa Mata, and the Bohrok. Even the Makuta had mysteries that weren't solved until long after. I know this is for children, but they can still hook in a new audience with a dense story. I read novels like "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" in elementary school, there are still kids who love dense stories.

Taqresu650 In reply to KrytenMarkGen-0 [2015-08-11 03:13:19 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I think the one who was least toy accurate in the first movie was perhaps Pewku. I remember getting a set with Pewku and Takua, and they used Technic wheels for movement and lego cords for the shell. Not to mention the fact that the movie Pewku had almost no recognizable bionicle pieces.
I don't know much about Skull Slicer, and I don't have the set, but the set looks awesome and unique. Mostly because of the gear system allowing all 4 arms to move. I don't think they've ever a 4 armed character fitted with a gear system before. That and the transparent colors (such as the chain) are the things that make me want the set the most.
There was also something odd I noticed in the recent updates for the Bionicle website. Firstly, but not odd at all, is the face that they've released video #10, and it continues right off from #9 and introduces some of the Skull army. Second, and this is the odd thing, is what one of the descriptions said. The "Ancient City" is now called the "City of the Mask Makers," and it's description reads:
"The ruined City of the Mask Makers is located deep in the jungles of the island. This is where the Mask Maker has lain in deep sleep ever since the great cataclysm. It was once a place of wonder and beautiful landscapes, but currently the city is in a state of stasis, frozen in time. Ever since the last embers of the Great Forge were extinguished the city has been waiting for heroes to bring it back to life. If the Great Forge is lit again, the city will awaken."
I know the Mask Maker is Ekimu, and he was sent to a deep sleep since his battle with Makuta, but the wording is what caught my eye. The description called the event the "Great Cataclysm." And I asked myself, "Why do they use that specific title for the event, especially since it's been used before in the old gen. In the old gen, it was when Makuta placed the Mata Nui robot in a deep coma and it crashed into a moon, causing all kinds of destruction in the MU. In the new gen, it's when Makuta donned the mask of Ultimate Power, causing destruction across the island (the video shows what looks like earthquakes), Ekimu stopped Makuta, but they were placed in comas and there was a shockwave across the island. Are these two scenarios supposed to sound so similar to each other?

It could be. I noticed that Episode 11 came out on the Bionicle website. Regardless of the generation, Lewa always has the worst luck of his Toa team. He's the only one to be possessed by an infected mask and a krana. One of his Katanas were damaged in the Toa's fight with the Piraka. He was possessed by Tren Krom, then blasted into space. The last we knew of him (in the old gen) was his capture by a tribe on Bota Magna. Now in gen 2, he's the first to lose his mask to a Skull villain. I have no way of knowing if he'll be the only one to lose his golden mask, but he is the first one.

Taqresu650 In reply to KrytenMarkGen-0 [2015-08-17 23:49:21 +0000 UTC]
True, but if the videos show the story accurately, then Lewa is the first to lose his mask. Each of the short videos of the villains seem to be glimpses from the story videos. For example almost all of the Skull Warrior scenes in the video are from the first two episodes (of the Summer wave) when they ambush the toa. Skull Slicer's video has clips of him stealing Lewa's mask, and then parts of what could be next video. If we go by the sets, then all but Gali and Tahu will lose their masks (since there are no set versions of their golden masks being drained). But it could go differently. Now that I think about it, Ekimu's temporary mask looks a bit like the drained masks of the toa; part gold, part transparent. That could be a drained golden villager mask, or it could be that way normally.

Taqresu650 In reply to KrytenMarkGen-0 [2015-08-24 19:44:07 +0000 UTC]
Tahu's new Mask of Fire would definitely look interesting as an infected mask. If they make such a mask, I can imagine it being a limited edition or promotional mask. Okoto's a new island, so they could still have some kind of poison or power that can infect masks. The Skull Villains were able to drain the power from Golden masks of power, so it wouldn't be hard to picture an infected mask. Some fans might even repaint their Masks of Fire to look identical to the old infected masks. Personally, I would never repaint my Bionicle pieces from any of my sets, but there are fans who do.

lol That's alright. I don't even try to customize any of my lego pieces, Bionicle or not.
I noticed another interesting thing in the videos. It's known now that the Skull Villains can drain a Mask's power from wearing it, but it also seems that the effect can be reversed simply by having the Toa wear their stolen Golden Mask. Episode 12 showed the Toa fight Skull Slicer for Lewa's Golden Mask in the Arena (which has moving hexagonal pillars similar to those in Metru Nui's Coliseum. It was interesting to see Kopaka flung into the air the same way the Toa Metru were lol). When they placed the Golden Mask back on Lewa, the transparent green faded and he, and his Mask, was back to normal.

Now I can see how Skull Grinder's character video fits in. So far, the Skull Warrior's character video and Skull Slicer's character video shows scenes from the recent episodes. Skull Grinder's video showed all 6 toa charging him with their normal golden masks (with no signs of draining). Now I can see why the Masks looked normal in that video.

I don't think Skull Slicer is dead either. He fell, but so did the Toa when Onua broke the arena. Then it looks like Skull Grinder will have a battle with the Toa and/or Ekimu in the Arena according to the videos.

True. It also seems that each of the Protectors, at least according to the Bionicle Wiki, have individual names as well. The Protector of Fire is Narmoto, the Protector of Water is Kivoda, the Protector of Jungle is Vizuna, the Protector of Stone is Nilkuu, the Protector of Ice is Izotor, and the Protector of Earth (who is oddly the only female of the Protectors) is Korgot. Usually it's those with the water or iron (I think), it's just different to have a female from a different element this time.
