Description
- Reds are 30 second sketches from Posemaniacs- Greens are 60 second sketches using the Figure and Gesture Drawing Tool [link]
- Blues are 2 minute sketches also using the figure drawing tool
My wife's been doing a lot of these lately (hasn't scanned/uploaded hers yet), so I've been pulling it up and doing some digital ones alongside her. The posemaniac sketches here are from a session I sat down and did a month or two ago, but the rest are from the past day or two. It's fun getting back into the swing of figure drawing, since I haven't done much gestural study since university.
Didn't bother with a mature content warning over those pixel-sized nipples, but if anyone's inexplicably offended, just let me know and I'll mark it.

The sketch tool link thing? Made my night. We're studying figure drawing in art class and that just like made my day.. I was looking up dancers to draw.. but it just got boring.. so many either innapropriate pictures or dancers doing the same thing over and over... Definitely using that to practice now... oh, and I really wish my drawings looked anything like yours cause they're no where close x) Inspirational!

Great! I was hoping that link would reach some people who could put it to good use. Looking up individual stock for figure sketching is definitely a pain in the neck, especially with all the.. questionable.. stock out there. I'm lookin' at you, dudes who think their dangly junk is the only thing worth showing off in a pose. Only I'm not lookin' at you. Now put some pants on.
Back to the point! I'm flattered that anyone would find my stuff inspirational in any regard. @@ Keep at it and you'll kick my butt in no time! Anything I can do is just the culmination of paying attention in class and practicing on my own time. From the sounds of things, you're doing both, so keep it up.

I love the 30 second drawings. they capture the essence of the pose so well. If i were the jealous type i would be jealous lol.

Thanks a bunch! Boiling a pose down to its essential lines can easily end in visual disaster, but I find the important part is to stop caring about whether or not you're creating a good drawing. The more mistakes you get out of the way, the less you'll make in the future.
When you look at the figure, just try to decide which parts feel the most important, then get them on the page in as few strokes as possible. The more drawings you do like that, the faster you get at it, and the more of the form you can build up in the same amount of time.
Hope that helps some if you decide to try some gestures yourself. x]

You've captured the energy of the gestures. I like how you've color-coded by time. Very cool.

Thankya! Yeah, posemaniacs is pretty cool, though some poses leave me wishing the muscles were more modeled and less textured, so you could study how they stretch and connect more easily. Still nice for overall poses, though.
