Edit (1/16/18): Made this for a concept that has been scrapped as of this edit but I still like to have it around.
And it's also my first wikibox I uploaded here on DA:
Yugoslav Crisis
The Soviet Occupation of Yugoslavia lasted over one month from February 1984 to March 1984. Insurgent groups known as fought against the Soviet Army and the Socialist Federation of Yugoslavia. Between 562,000–2 million civilians were killed and thousands of Yugoslavs fled the country as refugees, mostly to Austria, Italy, Greece, and Albania. The war is considered part of the Second Interwar Era and the main cause of World War III.
Prior to the arrival of Soviet troops, an alleged pro-Soviet coup broke out a few days before the planned 1984 Winter Olympics, installing Serban Milosevic as president. The party initiated a campaign of cultural Serbification throughout the country that was deeply unpopular, particularly among the non-Serbian population including the Kosovar Albanians, as well as cancelling the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo due to security concerns, making this the first time in history that an Olympic event was cancelled for political reasons. The government also vigorously suppressed any opposition and arrested thousands, executing as many as 20,000 political prisoners. Anti-government armed groups were formed, and by the end of February 1984 large parts of the country were in open rebellion. The inability of the Milosevic government to quell the rebellion led the Soviet government, under Grisha Popov [1], to deploy the Soviet Army on February 28th, 1984. Arriving in Yugoslavia, they began an extensive anti-insurgency campaign that saw reports of mass violations of human rights.
In March 1984, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution protesting the Soviet intervention by a majority vote and neighboring countries including Albania and Austria demanded withdrawal from the Soviets. Yugoslav insurgents began to receive massive amounts of aid and military training in neighboring Albania, Greece, and Italy, paid for primarily by the United States and NATO governments. The intention of NATO backing insurgents in Yugoslavia was to frustrate the purpose of the Soviet Union to fully bring Yugoslavia under their influence and to maintain the balance of power in the Balkans in NATO’s favor. Soviet troops occupied the cities and main arteries of communication, while the Yugoslav opposition waged guerrilla war in small groups operating in the almost 80 percent of the country that was outside government and Soviet control in a manner similar to how they opposed the Nazi German occupation during World War II. Soviets used their air power to deal harshly with both rebels and civilians, destroying various structures both real and suspected hideouts of the guerrillas.
In the middle of March 1984, tensions between NATO and the Warsaw Pact would peak with the Soviet government settling on using Yugoslavia, like East Germany, as a springboard to wage war against NATO. So in the morning of March 15th, 1984, the Red March attacks occurred, some of them launched from bases within Yugoslavia, starting the Third World War.

athelasproject.deviantart.com/… - I started a story on a "similar" topic. Didn't mean to advertise or anything (so feel free to remove the link if you deem it abusive). I just looked at this and found some similarities between this and my "story".
Cheers.

That's okay, I don't see a need to delete this; this would provide a good opportunity for viewers to compare our scenarios.
