HERE'S MY DOTTORE MALFATTO MASK
<3 Assassin's Creed <3
I UPLOADED THIS TO HELP FELLOW COSPLAYERS HOW TO MAKE A MALFATTO MASK and show off my awesomeness
--
My mask is make out of MODELING CLAY and FLORAL FOAM
-First, I took a blank-fullface mask base that can be bought at any craft store
-I bought a cone-shaped piece of Floral-foam (high density foam would be better, i don't think Styrofoam is a good replacement) and carved it into the shape of Malfatto's beak
-I cut out the nose of the mask, and bigger eye holes with an x-acto knife (sizzors just cut it man)
-The point of cutting open the nose is that IT'S DAMN SMALL, and it allows you to breath better.
- AFTER THAT, I hot-glued the foam beak to the mask after i made sure it was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. (Malfatto's beak should be about 10 cm, its really short)
-THEN, I took crayola modeling clay (light-wieght, cheap, and air-dry) and covered the area of the mask that i wanted to keep (note that malfatto's mask stops at his chin and is in a diamond-shape)
- While the clay is still moist and workable i shaped the mask into PERFECTION, that includes the beak detail, the cheek detail, and the frown.
-LET DRY
-The black circle parts of his eyes are just these lids for eye-shadows that i just popped out the glass part and glued into the mask... the black thingie in between the goggles is just hot glue... YEAH
-when the clay drys its kinda chunky-looking and soft. Sorta like you made the mask out of play-doe or marshmallows. and it has these ugly creases and stuff, and its just like BLEH, SOOOOOO, I took All-purpose Joint compound (can be bought at a hard-ware store for cheap, plaster would work too) I took the joint-compound and smeared it over the mask and smoothed out the entire mask.
-LET DRY, IGNORE FISH-SMELL
-AFTER IT DRYS, I painted the entire mask with thick white Acrylic paint.
-LET DRY, DON'T TOUCH IT UNTIL IT'S COMPLETELY DRY.
-after it's COMPLETELY dry I went in with watered down black and painted in the details. I also dry-brushed some silver paint over the decals.
-TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THIS. The mask looks better when you put some contrast in it, if it's all one color it looks boring and flat and soft. You want Malfatto's mask to be EDGY AND GRUNGY AND COLD. Seriously, painted in textures make it look BOSS
-AFTER EVERYTHING IS OF AWESOME, I painted two layers of glossy clear acrylic varnish.
THEN DONE
Oh wait, POKE IN HOLES FOR THE ELASTIC BAND, use a drill bro, anything else will crack your mask.
-OH YEAH, and breathing holes, those are important. I poked five holes at the bottom of the beak (you can see them in the pics) (these holes go right to your mouth, so if you have like a teeny-tiny straw you can drink things LIEK A MALFATTO HUMMING BIRD OR SOMETHING! 8D )
-Oh yeah the blacked out eyes. I just popped out the glass of a pair of Sunglasses and hot-glued them onto the inside of the mask.
--
HEY! If you intend on wearing this for a long period of time, MIGHT I SUGGEST BRINGING A LOT OF SWEAT RAGS, ITS GONNA BE LIKE A RAINSTORM WENT THROUGH YOUR MASK. DRINK LOTS OF WATER MALFATTO, WHY DO YOU THINK HE ONLY COMES OUT AT NIGHT?
--
I hope to see lots of good masks to be produced :3
but if anyone makes a better mask I'll kill them *COUGH COUGH* You hear anything??? >.> <.<

COMMENT ME IF YOU HAS QUESTIONS OR JUST WANT TO TELL ME HOW AWESOME I AM!!!

Hi, I was wondering how heavy was the mask after you had finished it? thankyou

It's very very light, probably less than a pound (less than .45 kg). If you use the Crayola modeling clay or some other brand of air-drying paper clay it will be very light
Paper macher would be very light weight too. I can't tell you how much it would weigh if you use Polymer clay or ceramic, but my guess would be one kilogram mostΒ
it's not heavy at all c:
i hope that helps, if you need anything else just ask!

Sorry maybe I'm an idiot and missed some of the description you wrote lol. Uh can u tell me how u did the sides of his faces (they look like gills which is part of the mask) but im a little unsure on how to do it. Sorry if I'm making you re-explain yourself :/ I liked what u did for you to be able to breath in the cosplay. This mask is very accurate and will help me alot for the cosplay I'm making.

DISCLAIMER: BREATHING HOLES OR NOT. YOU WILL STILL NOT BE ABLE TO BREATHE IN THIS MASK
This was literally the most uncomfortable thing I've ever been in, but it was sooooooo worth it
anyway...Β
the little gill thingies (thats actually exactly what i called them too)
I took pieces of the modeling clay and just rolled long strip things (and short strip things for the cheeks) and layed it down on the mask where the details were
then I moistened by hands with a lot of water and pinched the clay and ran my fingers a long the clay to give it a more angled and connected look (that wasn't a very good description, if you ever took ceramics in school it's called the pinch and weld technique)Β
I got it to look as... welded and pointy as i could, and then after the mask was COMPLETELY dry, I took joint compound (you could also use plaster) and smoothed everything out and filled in wrinklesΒ
when you start to do it, it'll make more sense
I hope that helps :CC if you need any further clarification just ask me
(and if you're REALLY lost I can even draw you a diagram if you want)

Oh no no i don't wanna put you through the trouble of drawing me a diagram lol thnx though I've got an idea on what your talking about with the whole pinch and weld technique thingy, this is actually one of the first cosplays I've been working on and by far the most difficult. Thank you sooo much i couldn't say it enough this helps alot!!! Thank you thank you thank you ^___^
