dude, please...i'm begging you, though bg's may be tedious, don't just stick to characters. i've said it once before and i'll say it again, this looks like your paintings and i would sincerely LOVE to see you do a full animation like this, the way you already had your painting style down and this, it's just so original the way you go at things and it'd be a fucking shame not to have these things come to full fruition. in the end of course it's your decision, but if characters are as far as you go, or if you just decided to drop 3D entirely, it'd be a decision i'd lament for a long time to come.

Anything worth doing is worth putting time into.. 2 weeks makes no difference if you were enjoying it. But if it was a painful 2 weeks then maybe it just means your passion is with your characters? Either way I think it was 2 weeks well spent. This is great! Very must a Myst Tril quality feel to it.
Take a break and do another sometime, I encourage you to!!!

I lovwe how it turned out cause it doesn't look like a tacky 3D bg. It looks as tho you can stick your characters in there and they would blend in perfectly without realizing that the bg is 3D. It looks so finely painted....uh, sorry rambling with praise...I'll just fav. :3

Don't be disappointed! That's a nice background! Nifty floor, cool walls, neat stuff on the ceiling...the only thing it needs is a subject! You should try putting something in there to be the focus of the picture...and that's the only problem I see. It's almost a bit busy as a background, or at least there's not much room to actually put anything in there composition-wise. Possibly something floating over that hole and light emanating from the hold underlighting it would be pretty cool. Actually I just noticed the ladder which is making me notice the scale of things, the ladder looks way too big or the railing is too low, so possibly that would give you space to zoom in and add a half naked techno chick climbing out of the hole! yeah!...erm. Anyway...

anyway, the railings are planed to be only knee level. and this is supposed to be a purely backgrnd piece, so i made the whole thing busy

this is really good man, dont make this your first and last shot at backgrounds, i can see you going somewhere with this. i like the way the walls seem warped, or bent. i think you might just have to work on the perspectivea little, if you notice at the bottom of the pic when the floor begins to turn, it looks a little off. still, dont quit on this, youll get quicker eventually, and it will only take you 1 week to finish it

The BG might have been too tedius, but you can't deny that that is one bad ass background though. It looks like well worth the trouble.
