Never said that there was grinding REQUIRED, but there were aspects where the grind was removed to make the experience more enjoyable and unique.

Yes, well, the second series was a later, truer adaptation of the manga.
The first one was started while the manga was still running then made up their own ending when they reached where the manga was.
Can't speak for the nostalgia because I watched them both at the same time.
