Haha, of course I know Clockwork Orange, but I didn't remember that his name was Alex, and I didn't think about the connection before you mentioned it. But you are right, they look slightly alike

The eyes and the hair is something that really attracts me in a portrait

This clown project seem really interesting; if it's not something personal
what made you came up with the idea?

Long story, or not that long really, it just took a really long time from I came up with the idea, and until I actually started to take some of the pictures.

During a class one day about a year and a half ago one of our teachers talked about inspiration, ten minutes into the lecture I just started to see lots of possible clown pictures in my head (crazy as I am ). I didn't really listen to anything else he said during that class, just came up with more and more ideas.

In the beginning I was mainly thinking about featuring a scary clown, and using a mask. I didn't really find any masks that I liked and decided to go for face paint instead. The longer I waited the more my ideas evolved, and I didn't think just scary clowns anymore, but all kind of clowns, and many different clowns "played" by different people. Kind of making the clowns an image of the human mind and emotions, like jealousy, joy, sadness, melancholy, love, dreams, anger, madness. The clown painting lets the viewer make more of a distance to the person being portrayed and connect more to the emotions, and also it's a way to showcase the masks that people use all the time to distance their real feelings from other people, with or without knowing.

I guess that's pretty much what's behind it, it started out simple, then it became more and more complex

That sounds really fine
I like when people share the origin of their ideas,
so I can try and understand a bit more what they were
trying to portray. Thanks for taking the time to answer jaja
