Description Just a brief insight to how to how I sprite usually.

Top one Rupsen, I set out a 96x96 border to know how big I need to make it relative. Then I just doodled the pose.

Second one I didnt doodle a pose just started pixelling straight from the face. It was TOO big so I had to reduce it in size.

Third one was a lot harder to do, including a slight repose halfway through so there were a lot more variations and "assets" created to aid in this.

I'll either pixel over an image, or do it by blocking out colors.

oh, i see you and i use a similar technique! looks very good. Have you tried spriting on a non-white background? i find it helps when coloring outlines. (I usually use dark green.)

Yeah I've seen a lot of people do that, but I can't say I've ever done it really! Maybe I should haha.

they all look fantastic! (the sprites) I would only sugest to swap the feet on the grass/flying one, they look a bit unnatural as they are atm (here [link] )
*I usually go for the second/thrid method*

Haha you're totally right! I will do that hehe. I actually had them like that originally then I swapped them over for some reason, but your way looks much better.

ElegantExcalibur [2013-04-04 03:57:31 +0000 UTC]

And that explains why you're better at making them more official than mine. xD

"sketch the pose, scan it in, then make it tiny and go over it."

I use to do this but I find it easier to do every thing in MS paint. Now I just sketch the sprites in a very light color and go over them.

Speaking of which I just found out some artist make "blobs" in the general shapes of what they want and then add details. I was watching this video and they kind of just shaped the sprite instead of sketching and lining I found it very interesting.

I feel ashamed I have not made a sprite in months

I use this process most of the time other times I do colors first and sometimes I just skip the sketching step and just start pixeling the outline one by one :f just depends I guess

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kyle-Dove In reply to GeoisEvil [2013-04-03 11:03:51 +0000 UTC]

I thought you of all people would NOT use this process xD you seem to always do the colours first and lines last! I started out by pixelling the outline one by one but I really dislike that method now, it always creates weird poses and lineart when I do it lul.

Interesting insite Kyle, this could help me improve, I never really got into spriting, iv only recently started trying stuff, so stuff like this showing how its done by someone with more experience could really help me learn, thanks mate.

To be honest, I used to hate making pokemon battle sprites! I really struggled with the poses, and I had to get other people to sketch the pose, scan it in, then make it tiny and go over it...I'm so ashamed! I haven't done that for ages though.

So basically you use to do pixel-overs of your own work?
