Description
Finally! This guy took me about a month (off and on) to complete, and I'm pretty happy with him. The goal was for a more film like look and to get it as photo real a possible. I know I didn't it, but hopefully the next time around I will. I really hope you enjoy it.
Modeled and rendered in Maya, Sculpted and poly-painted in Zbrush, Fabric textures in Photoshop, and composited in After Effects.

Hey, sorry for the late response, haven't been on here for awhile. Yea go for it, if you don't mind giving me a tiny credit for it at the end that would be awesome.

Amazing and inspiring work here! I actually like the bit of style that gives it so much character and depth, even if it doesn't look completely realistic.

Really, really well done! The facial hair is amazing and you game him a very nice weathered look.
When I look at him, my first thought was, "modern day Hobbit."

Amazing work. So much detail is packed into this piece, it makes the whole thing that much more breathtaking. I'll admit a picture like this just feels story driven... I love paintings that seem like they have something to say. This is no exception!
Wicked work man, truly amazing!!

Looks fantastic! I'm trying to get this level of quality in my work as well.
Just curious, but resolution are your texture files?

I went a little over board on the sizes, the face is an 8K texture, the jacket is 6K, and everything else is 4K. Surprisingly it still rendered pretty quick, the beauty pass took about 10 minutes.Β

Wow! Congrats on the DD!
You did such a great job with everything... did you just make him up?
Or did you have a model? Which isn't the point because he's perfect anyway

I used a bunch of different reference images for this guy. Really trying to learn anatomy so I don't think I'll be working without reference for a long time. But yes, he is made up, there was no one image I worked off for this guy.

Looks really awesome! Β It is very close to being like a photo for sure!
I think lighting is what is throwing it off mostly. Β The hair and skin texture are both acting very reflective for some reason. Β Maybe there is just a lot of contrast or something, I don't know. Β But all the textures are really amazing! Β Just need to make them behave for you. Β Otherwise, he looks very realistic and is very well done! :]

Yea I think your right. I think its from the post color correction, I tend to go a little nuts on that. But at the time it felt right, looking at it now its a little over done.

Someone get this dwarf a beard, a battle axe and a flagon of mead. Then it's off to the lonely mountain with him.
