Happy New Years Eve, all! As 2022 draws to a close here's a look back at all the models I made this year. Last year I began an initiative to finally make some models that had been on my to-do list for ages. I continued that initiative through 2022, and in a big way! Most of the models I made this year were of characters I've been meaning to make (or re-make) for years. It felt good to finally check so many longstanding models off my to-do list!It was also my most prolific year, by far. Ultimately, I made 50 models in total during 2022, 31 of which are present in this photo. So many that they barely even fit in my photo studio! Obviously, making a 15-piece nativity set for myself contributed quite a bit to that number all on its own!
But another major contributor to the large total was a multi-model project I didn't even post on here. Early in the year I created a set of 7 parody "Wishables" of Tom Corless and the various YouTube personalities from WDW News Today and their comedy show "WDW News Tonight." The Wishables were so well received that I ended up creating a second set, plus a couple of duplicates, that were auctioned off in WDWNT's annual charity auction. In total, the Wishables raised just under $2000 for Toys for Tots, which is better than I ever could have hoped for! A highlight of the year for sure. (The angry looking fellow in front of the Freezeezy Peak Snowman is an additional Tom Wishable I made for myself after the fact.)
As far as DeviantArt goes, though, the undeniable superstar this year was Kirby. Despite being one of the smallest and simplest models I've ever made, he ended up getting featured as a Daily Deviation and went on to absolutely trounce the number of views and favorites and such that all my prior models had received combined. Even the Freezeezy Peak Snowman, who was also featured as a Daily Deviation later in the year, couldn't mach Kirby's inexplicable popularity. Go figure. 🤷
All in all, 2022 was probably my favorite year of making these models so far, with some of the models I made this year easily ranking among my all-time favorites. Here's to more model-making fun in 2023!
