Description The M1 does My talking!

So I'm a WWII fan...what can I say! This piece was a personal project that I wanted to work on that suited a niche in my interests. It also allowed me an opportunity to try a few more tricks and methods that will come in handy on some future projects. As with most things, learning is much more enjoyable when you "play" and experiment with new techniques/skills.

This is a picture depicting a WWII U.S. Army Paratrooper caring his M1 Garand rifle. On a side note, those that are not familiar with the M1, it is said to have had one predominate weakness...it made an audible "cling" sound as it spit out its internal clip when empty of rounds. It carried 8 .30-06 rounds in each clip. Often times, it was said that the enemy would listen for the "cling" sound in combat and engage/counter fire upon hearing the sound, attempting to gain the advantage during reloading. It replaced the tried and trusted U.S. 1903 Springfield and was the first semi-automatic rifle to be issued. It quickly earned a reliable reputation and is listed as one of the top 10 rifles of all time.

I created this image to be somewhat of a modern take on the old World War II propaganda posters. I used several original photographs with some computer generated elements in Photoshop to created (hopefully) a well blended, but surreal looking environment and look. I expect to make more in the future and hope to incorporate some different uniforms if possible. I posed the model to portray a sense of swagger and confidence, similar to the persona of many of Clint Eastwood characters...made complete with a fat, smoking cigar.

I love this poster! The HDR look works nicely with the hot rim light!

Would you be interested in creating a propoganda-style movie poster for my film Project Arbiter? Its a 20 minute short that will be coming out in early 2011! Band of Brothers meets Rocketeer. ProjectArbiter.com. I have plenty of HDR images of the suit in different poses available. Let me know. Thanks!

Nice photomanipulation piece! It feels very nostalgic. Funny thing is I was just reading about the M1 garand in the M1 magazine I believe and they had an article talking about that "cling" sound it made. Once again cool piece!

its funny I was actually telling a friend yesterday, that if I lived in the US, I'd probably own an armoury by now

Well don't move to California. Gun laws are crazy restrictive. You cant have a gun that can carry more then ten rounds, anything that penetrates well, and most guns need special licences that you can only get by haveing served in the military.

You can own one. The Fulton Armory in Maryland still manufactures brand new Garands and ship them any where in the country.
