Description
I have to say that I really felt good about this shot while I was taking it. It combines history, rural life, beautiful red rust, part of an old homestead, open plains, brewing thunderstorms with falling rain, and the adventure of rediscovery. Sometimes when composing certain shots, I sometimes feel like the composition is "robotic" and sometimes stale even though it meets certain technical requirements. The joy and excitement comes when perspective or viewpoint are changed and your instincts jump because you know this is the angle that best tells the "story" of your subject. Whether or not you agree, I felt satisfied and excited about the capture and that is what makes me what to go out for more! This piece of farm equipment seems to be frozen in an eternal gaze towards the west and the abundance and freedom that it represents.

Kyle:
Great shots throughout your gallery! I admire your talent and skills!
Being a Midwestern recovering farmboy (Farmboys Anonymous), I really appreciate the venues, conditions, and images you capture. In fact, I'd like to get my hands on a couple of the old jalopies you've shot (giving away any leads!?!)
My father is a retired farmer whose pastime is restoring old tractors and entering some in tractor-pull events. Would you be willing to allow me to forward a link to this image? I know he would get a kick out of it ... and I would hope he'd take time to review all of your gallery.
Regardless, I thank you so very much for being a deviant and for showing us excellence, intelligence, insight, and humor.
Best regards,
~greg

Thanks for you extremely kind words! I gotta tell you, those tractors seem to be everywhere around western Oklahoma. In fact, since I've been somewhat keeping my eye out for them, I'm surprised at how many there actually are. There is a place several miles from where I live that actually has numerous old tractors lined up next to the highway. I've though about shooting some pics of it, but haven't done it yet.
Feel free to share the link with your father. Exposure to the gallery is always welcome!
Thanks again!

Wow, impressive shot. I thought at first it was a painting, still think it's a painting with the vibrance and wonderful lighting. And we've seen how alot of wonderful artists have masterfully rendered such shots like this in Photo shop with skillfull ease and grace. This is just... wow

Thanks! I wished I was that good at creating digital paintings...but this is an actual photograph. The lighting was a little half and half since the western sky was consumed my the thunderstorm and behind me the sky was full with big, fluffy clouds. So I guess some of the light was diffused with a small dash of crisp, direct sunlight.

Sweet! I'm glad you like! It's always fun to find something with so much texture, especially in the rust!
