Description An inkwash rendering of a scene from a novel trilogy I read. It was done about a year ago for an art project, but I ended up not even using it in the assignment. Shame, because it was my favorite, but it was necessary to cut out.

The scene is from Garth Nix's Abhorsen Trilogy, and it's depicting Lirael standing at the end of the river Death. I don't want to really give away the book, though, so that's as far as I'll go.

Done with mostly black ink and water, although I did use white ink for the stars up at the top in the sky. All in all, I'm quite happy with this piece. It looks better in person though. Can't believe I didn't get around to scanning it earlier.

Might upload some of the other pictures some other time.

Lirael belongs to Garth Nix.
Inkwash by me.

cool! ...ummm... I have a question for you, though... are there pens that use white ink? and where did you get white ink in the first place? sorry if it's a weird question... ^.^; I like using pen in my drawings...

Thanks~

Not at all. White ink bottles are a little harder to find than black ones, but you can find them at any art/craft store. They also commonly sell red, blue, and yellow there, so you can add a little color to your inkwash if you know how. You do have to use nib-pens or brushes with them, though, so they're a little hard to use at first, but the overall effect is really nice. Just be careful because they can splatter, especially if your paper is textured like mine was.

Be careful to only use the white marginally though, otherwise your picture will look a little weird.

Hope that helped. : >

...? I think we may be talking about different kinds of pens... ^.^;;;

Probably. There's normal pens and nib pens, I used nib pens for this assignment. They're like... you get the base body of the pen, but then you have to stick the points -- the nibs -- into it. Uhhhh....

Like this. [link]

Sorry, first picture I could find.

For those you dip the pens into ink wells. Were you talking about a normal writing pen?

yeah, I was... dunno how to use pen nibs, but I get the feeling that if/once I do, I'll be able to draw better stuff... ^.^;

Well, the effect of nib pens are a bit nicer since you have more control of your line, but they are pretty hard to use at first, since they can splatter. I /do/ like them better than normal pens, though. XD
