Here's a tut that teaches you how to prep your lineart to start coloring:

**oops forgot to mention smth about using other layers, once you finish dropping your colors you can color your drawing in separate layers (eg layer for hair, layer for skin etc.) The color blargh is just a step where you figure out your unifying color palette of the drawing. :3 I prefer working on just that one layer because I'm lazy, so...rofls it's up to you really!!
