Well to some people to help you understand they see it as a child like I mean they would like to add the character to a family of characters they have and draw it and take care of the character. It is like really just up to the eye of the beholder kind of thing. It's like in a way why would you pay lots of money on your child??? Because you love them a lot.

I would never equate OC-art to children; people adore their children since they have an innate instinct to procreate and protect offspring but I digress. I get that you're trying to express your fascination of the picture but the child comparison didn't really make sense... You don't need to spend 150$ on a sketch in order to create your own family of characters, since you could save money. You can be inspired by a picture such as this one and create similar characters. If you practice drawing, you can adapt the art style. But 150$ is a lot of money(I'd understand 50$ maximum but you could buy so many books, games, movies, or simply donate it to charity with that amount... a sketch such as the one presented here is simply not worth this much. But maybe this leads back to the way I've been raised since I didn't have 150$ to my disposal to spend on a character you could see in any manga/anime ever...).

Some people collect shoes, some people collect videogames, some people collect watches. There are many hobbies that can become quite expensive. Yeah, I could buy a couple of videogames with $150, but I find videogames to be a huge waste of my time. That doesn't mean other people don't get a lot of pleasure from them, though!
The thing especially about artwork is that it's worth different amounts to different people. But don't judge other people's "useless" hobbies, because we all have "useless" hobbies, except they're not useless because we enjoy them. $150 may be a lot, but if you adore this design and will get a lot of use out of the character, it might be a reasonable price to pay.
(this being said, I don't but adopts, but I don't see how an adopt is inherently less valuable than videogames or movies)

Pardon me, but I believe you misquoted me since I don't recall applying the word "useless" in my prior messages. I simply claimed that $150 for a single picture of an anime character without a background is too expensive.
In my eyes, it's like spending $150 for a manga page. For example, I used to be obsessed with Naruto and its artist Masashi Kishimoto, hence I bough an art book for $20 with 145 pages. I consider it a great deal and I received countless of pictures with dynamic lighting, captivating poses and astonishing backgrounds (that's a price difference of 130$!!).
Now, I understand if people have different interests (e.g. games, etc.) but I am convinced that for $150 you could find superior art to purchase out there. Moreover, I also acknowledge that people have a great fascination for such art, but I can't help but question their financial procedure. Lastly, I also acknowledge that maybe you simply want to support the artist but I prefer sites such as Patreon to support artists because the artist could then sell the painting to another individual, thus making more money.
I rest my case with this commission: This fellow deviant offered his paintings for $150 and I am of the opinion that it is far more exquisite:

And I'm afraid you only prove my point; I would much rather have Whispwill's art than Zincwhite's. It's a matter of personal preference.
Finally, I'd like to say that if you divide $150 by 7.25 (the American minimum wage), you get about 20. So $150 equates to approximately 20 hours of minimum wage effort. I can easily imagine that a piece like this would take at least 10-15 hours to complete, and that doesn't count designing time. The price of $150 for this piece of art cannot be much more than minimum wage. The only reason manga books can sell so cheaply is because an enormous number of copies are sold; you aren't receiving unique rights to the art.

Insinuating that I consider this hobby "useless" is a massive injustice. I love art and I respect purchasing art but I'm simply questioning the price people are willing to purchase it.
In my humble opinion, this specific painting is not worth making a living on.
Whisp is undoubtedly talented but Zincwhite's paintings seem as though they take way more time to create. (Just google paintings worth $150 and you will find paintings with way more quality.) Whisp's painting, in my eyes, is shaded very conservatively.
Also, I've heard that the artist here has a patreon, hence this is not his only source of income. And I question that he spent 10-15 hours for a painting such as this one. Objectively, when comparing it to other paintings, this painting isn't worth $150 and
I compared it to a manga since the consumer receives a better product when he's buying a manga than this painting- more quality and quantity. Mangas have multiple pictures with the same quality as this one with coherent story lines.
But why would you buy the rights to this art if you could design similar characters and simply be inspired by this one? An extra $135 just for the rights of something you could create either way if you practice long enough?
Please explain, I'm genuinely interested.

I wasn't insinuating that you said it was useless. I'm sorry it sounded that way, I suppose that word came partially from my dealings with other people, but I never meant to attribute that feeling to you. I meant to clarify that in the previous post, and I suppose I did another poor job. Please understand I didn't and don't mean to say that you think art is useless.

To conclude: It was fun having this little debate with you here ^^. While I still haven't quite changed my position on this topic, I believe that it's just a matter of perspective and arguing about it doesn't change that fact. I think there are paintings for me to purchase which please my individual taste which I personally deem worthy of the $150 dollar mark. But the only thing I want people to understand is to be careful on what they spend their money on

I have to agree with you. While this is one of my favorite artists, I'm a patreon supporter and follow the comic, this design in particular is nowhere near the worth that it's been driven to. But I'm happy someone's willing to give their support. My eyes went O_O at the price it was at haha, but these people are willing and happy to spend it, so I don't see a problem.

No, I admire your courtesy that you offer your money to the painter. However in my opinion, I believe that objectively, without looking at who drew the painting, it's not worth 150$. I hope you didn't misconstrue my message, as I stated in an earlier, it's fine if you simply want to donate to the painter but I'm giving you my perspective of why I wouldn't purchase it and why it's good but not worth this amount. But if you're doing it for charity, that's nice although I'd rather donate to impoverished individuals. But any money you donate is good!

But at the same time let her live that out I wish people would bid that high for me xd. But then again the Mona Lisa is the worlds most famous painting but are there better works in skill and creation and aspect to compare in higher levels to that piece??? The world is just a comparison to counter parts.
