Thank you so much for the tutorial! It's easy to understand and covers coloring techniques that I have observed before in other artworks, but couldn't quite work out on my own. Very appreciated!

For the line work do you put an overlay/gradient over the top? My line work always looks much too bold and the piece ends up flat, whereas yours comes aliveΒ

I tried it out and I found it an easier way to color rather than the way I usually color and more fun too!! I'm definitely going to use this method more often!Β
I used Β it on an art trade and it turned out great:Β Art Trade: pandamander

I can't than enough for this - I've been struggling to colour for a very long time now, never being quite sure how to go about it and always ending up frustrated. This tutorial with a few adjustments really helped me through what would have otherwise been a very long art block DX

Oh thank you so much excellent tutorial!
I have a question: on the girl picture in the end, how do you do to color just the lines? Was it with photoshop? I usually use photoshop, but I never figured out how to do that unless I make my lines in a mask...
π: 0 β©: 1
whispwill In reply to Cherubit [2016-03-15 00:39:13 +0000 UTC]
I just lock the layer //

Cherubit In reply to whispwill [2016-03-16 22:14:22 +0000 UTC]
you lock the lines layer?
but the lines are kind of colored too, different colors... how do you do that? .-. (the colored finished girl one, the last drawing)

whispwill I have a question. How do you keep the color under the lines so well? Because even if I set it to multiply and a certain color, I tend to draw the color over lines... So even if I color it well, if I color the hair a smidge over the lineart, it will leave a rather annoying little blob of different color there. :/

An infinite amount of patience lol

Izagar In reply to whispwill [2016-03-15 21:48:17 +0000 UTC]
Meh... I'll just leave the layer normal and color pick myself, then opacity lock the lines and color over them. But thanks though!

You explain everything very well and now, I understand some part better than before. Especially the "bounce light" and how you shade/light the lips and nose, that I couldn't get it right before (the "thing" that really add a lot to the whole illustration). ^^

Thank you so much for this in-depth tutorial ;u; I think the line where you said to imagine painting on a skull really helped. (I wish there was such a clear tutorial like this years ago >u< especially with the color palette explanation //// I'm still struggling with my own colors and your tutorial just fired me up π)
