Description
Part I | Part IIOriginal: Ryukishi07
Anime: Kyuuta Sakai
Matsuri: rato
These are some color palettes for Higurashi characters, from their original sprites and their anime and Matsuri versions. The palettes are organized chronologically, because each artist drew inspiration from the one(s) before, so it's like color progression.
idk what all to say here but I will think of something later
Download includes the above image, as well as each individual palette.

I guess I'll understand more after I've actually watched the anime.
This looks pretty elaborate, though, how long did it take you to make all of the different parts?

Yeah, these aren't the clearest palettes in the world⦠they make more sense if you're looking at a sprite or whatever at the same time. =w=;;;
It's not as impressive when it's not all put together I think, but maybe not.
As for how long it took⦠well, I did each of them one at a time by character and got somewhat faster as I went a long, but⦠hmm, they probably took about two hours each? That's not counting going back and revising organizational systems (adding the little squares, for example) which adds at least another hour to each of them if not more. In all I made fourteen palettes for Higurashi (more than forty for Umineko 8D), so I would guess this entire project took a little over a day⦠so like thirty hours? idk, that sounds like a hell of a long time, but I found it very soothing and extremely enjoyable so it wasn't a chore at all.
I-I can explain my process if that's what you meant <<;

What do the three different categories mean? I haven't even heard "Matsuri" before, I think... I understand that it somehow has to do with varying palettes of the characters, though.^^

Ah! I see! I shall explain.
Original Rena Sprite , from the original visual novels, drawn by Ryukishi07 in about 2002
Anime Rena Reference Sheet , from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (I use the Kai refs because they're cleaner than the first season ones and the colors are the same anyway), drawn by Kyuuta Sakai in about 2007
PS2 Rena Sprite , from the PS2 port of the originals VNs, called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri (when I refer to "Matsuri", I mean this game c: ), drawn by rato in about 2007
If you look at all these, you'll see the colors are all slightly different between them, and this fact served as the basis of my color palettes project.
This is more clear, yes? Or perhaps you have more questions?

No, I think I get it all now.
Now just to watch the anime when I have the will and the time.

I didn't really think about it before, but the original colours seem much more vivid than the anime and Matsuri ones.

Oh, yes, they really are. Ryu07 seems to really like bright colors (see the Umineko palettes), but on the other hand Kyuuta's colors are quite dull, even by themselves. I think Rena and Satoko's palettes make the difference the most obvious⦠I mean look at Rena's hair; it's clearly orange in the original but almost brown in the anime :U
I just think the differences are so interesting idk asfjkaflkas ;-;
