Description

You ever have one of those days when you know something bad is going to happen, you just don't know what, so you spend the day waiting for the other shoe to drop? And of course it never comes early, like spilling coffee on yourself early in the morning so you can breathe a sigh of relief, change clothes, and get on with life. Oh no. It has to linger on for most of the day till it punches you square in the jaw with something like...you forgot an important proposal at home and only have five minutes to figure something out, or you find out that you only have ten minutes to pick someone up at the airport and it's clear across town.

That kind of thing.

That was how my day was going. I knew something was going to happen. Call it woman’s intuition, a gut feeling, or even my ability to tap into the fundamental-quantum-forces-of-nature for all I care (though that one is a bit long), but I knew something was wrong, and that it was going to hit me hard.

So what do you do in that kind of situation?

Well...I have learned (from really crappy experiences that involved time travel...don't ask) that you just have to kind of let it happen. No, really. If you start trying to dodge this bad feeling thing, it usually gets worse. It has to do with choices being made causing branching realities that inadvertently cause even worse circumstances to happen. Um...yeah...sorry. Suffice it to say, it can suck. So...you just have to ride it, which brings me to where I am today, flying patrol over Angel Falls.

It's a pretty day. Nothing particularly special about it, other than that bad feeling I'd had all day. And then that twitch in my head happened. That little ping that told me that somewhere nearby a magnetic field was being disrupted. This one seemed rather large too. Almost like an EMP was going off. I wondered if it might be military grade as I flew off toward the source, a side street near The Village, a newer shopping area. I scanned the area with my Quantum Vision, and saw what appeared to be a fracture in space-time, not an EMP burst. It was just putting off high end electromagnetic waves as it built in strength. It hadn't opened yet, so I began yelling at the people around me. "Everyone get out of here! There's about to be a wormhole! Get the hell out of here! Spread the word, and tell the police!" That having been done, I called on Network to help me out as well: "Network, this is Lady Quantum, do you read?"

The tired voice came back, but she was still professional, "This is Network, go ahead."

I started in telling her about the wormhole, and asking her to inform AFPD of its location and to help in evacuation people. "I'll get right on it." she said. "Incidentally, do you have any idea what's coming through there?" she asked with a bit of amusement.

I stopped for a moment, sighing into the comm, "I have no damn clue, but I know that I'm the first responder, and if it's aggressive, I'll need to try and either stop it or slow it down." I told her with a bit of a low tone in my voice.

"Roger that. I'll see if I can't get you some help headed in that direction. Just in case." she clicked off as I was about to protest, but I really shouldn't have. After all, more heroes is a good thing, right?

The portal opened in a flash of light and a roar of thunder, like a waterfall being dumped into our world from another. The energy buildup was immense, and I had to concentrate to keep myself steady on my feet as the energy pulsed outward from it. As I looked into it, I saw two figures coming toward this end of the wormhole, one large, and armored, the other...

They cleared the portal in a blast of furious energy, both flying out at high speeds. The one in armor looked like...but that was impossible.

It was N3WT0N!

There was no way that he could be alive, and yet he was here, exchanging blasts with...

Oh no...

It was me...

Or rather, another me.

The portal collapsed as the two figures flew through and up, exchanging blasts, then around and down, speeding past buildings and weaving through the trees along the sidewalk. The girl couldn't have been more than sixteen or seventeen, and there was something strange about her. Her eyes were very large, and her skin seemed...odd. She flew down, halting nearby, striking a pose, with twinkling quantum symbols swirling about her, as she announced her intentions: "I am Lady Quantum, champion of justice! In the name of science, I am here to right wrong, and punish evil...and that means you!" She pointed at the glowering N3WT0N.

All I could do was put my hand to my head and mutter, "Oh Lord, Not only is there another of me...but she's a Magical Girl to top it off..."

She glanced in my direction, and seemed shocked by my appearance, "Y-you look like me!"

N3WT0N chuckled, "That's because she IS you, you air-headed schoolgirl! On this world, SHE is Lady Quantum!"

The poor girl look totally confused, and upset, not knowing what to do. "B-but...I don't understand..." tears started to spring to her eyes, but the moment was cut short as a blast caught her square in the chest, laying her out flat. The action was so sudden, and I was so caught up in the girl's emotional state, that I didn't even realize it was happening.

I turned, snarling at this new N3WT0N, someone so hated, yet back again, "Let's see if you can pick on someone your OWN size..." My fists began to glow as I charged them up, and my anger built.

"Ah, ah, ah- temper, temper my dear. You have more pressing concerns I would think. Like that young twin of yours, there. I would think that blast I gave her might be enough to do some serious harm. You wouldn't want to leave her alone while fighting me, and something bad happen to her...now would you?", the smugness rolled off of him as he began to rise into the air again, never turning his back.

I allowed him to go, nodding at him as he did the same. A silent agreement that this exchange wasn't over. After making sure that N3WT0N had left the scene, I began inspecting the girl to see how badly she was injured. "Network! We have a situation! We need an ambulance stat!" The blast had caught her square in the chest, breaking ribs, which had then punctured major organs. Her body was attempting to heal itself, but it wasn't healing as fast as mine does, and it appeared that she might die unless she received medical attention right away.

I heard a swoosh of air, and looked up to see a glowing man in what appeared to be Roman or Greek looking attire hovering to the ground. Outdated? Maybe. But he knew how to make a hell of an entrance. I'd seen him on the news, and heard about him busting heads in the West and South Side areas. He seemed to be a decent hero from what I could gather, if a bit...flashy. “Hey!” he said as he touched down with a kind of boyish grin on his face. I sighed, better make that flashy and dumb...

Network buzzed in my ear, "Lady Quantum, you should be seeing Apollo any time now."

I nodded to no one in particular, “Yeah, yeah, nice to meet him and all that hoo-ha. We’re in an emergency. Niceties can wait till we save a life." I looked at Apollo, "I need to get her to a hospital, NOW. I can fly, but in her state, she might not make it. I need something to put her on to stabilize her. A door will work. Then we need something to strap her to it with. Can you handle that?"

Apollo nodded, and with no hesitation in his voice stated firmly, “Absolutely! Let's do this!”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh boy! It's hitting the proverbial fan this time! TWO QUANTUMS?! And N3WT0N is back??? Looks like our heroine is going to have a lot of trouble to deal with this time around.

Lady Quantum, and um...Lady Quantum (Magical Girl Style), and N3WT0N are all care of yours truly and are only to be used with permission. LQ can usually be found patrolling the streets and skies of (The other two apparently come from an alternate Anime Dimension that is more...cartoonish. )

Network, and Apollo are care of and are used here with permission.

Hope you all like it, and more is to come!

She’s actually from an alternate dimension, so will probably be hunting down her version of N3wt0n before returning home.

I've actually thought about doing one for her, but I'm not sure that Jak is really into that genre as much. I have plenty of anime' stuff to throw at a comic for that though, so I think it would be fun and interesting.

One of the General? You mean General Bardak? Hmmm...not sure about him. Would wonder if an anime approach would look right on him since he has very specific things/looks for the character.

As for my pricing, I've got a section on my front page that entails all that stuff, but mainly it starts at about $30-$50 depending on complexity and how long it's going to take me, as well as if there are things that need to be purchased for the character. Go ahead and take a look there and then send me a note if you're interested.

I don't know that it's people not liking magical girls. I can tell you in LQ's case it's the consternation that there is another one of her AND that it's a magical girl, like saying she's an anime' cartoon character, only much shorter.

The highest honors that a superhero can have are:  having a fan club, having a villain make evil clones of them, having an alternate dimension magical girl.

Is this what you meant when you said you had
transferred LQ’s morphs by hand, over several hours,
to G3F, but she ended up looking like a younger sister ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lady-Quantum In reply to ttobserve [2015-09-26 02:39:06 +0000 UTC]

Actually, let me just show you.

Here we have a closeup of the V4 version of LQ that I currently use in my projects:

And here we have a closeup of the G3 version I did trying to type in all the morphs that I'd written down that she has in her head/face (which took me about 3 hours to do)

From most everyone that I talk to that I've shown these to, the G3 version looks like a younger sister to the V4 version of the character. You can definitely see the resemblance between the two, but once you go under the nose is where, because of the width of the chin and how the jawline is, makes her look younger. I know that the skin is going to have an impact, but how the actual character is morphed is going to have the biggest impact in my experience.

Now, to be fair, I didn't know how to adjust the morphs to allow for larger percentages than where they are preset until...well...this week...but I know now.

ttobserve In reply to Lady-Quantum [2015-09-26 04:26:57 +0000 UTC]

More than younger sister, what I see here is, in your G3 version,
a believable blockbuster-style action heroine versus, perhaps, her mother? Aunt?
Certainly your V4 version looks more motherly, more conservative, less prone to jump off a whatnot!

Yes, your first character belongs here:  ;
your second would be less convincing
in that scene.

My advice to you is: don’t keep trying to make your G3 version
resemble your original, more; keep them both,     as separate characters!

Oh, and, size D is quite enough, IMO, for flying around town!

Unfortunately I don't need another character added to my roster, I just need the one I have to work with all the new things that are coming out for DAZ, which once again, unfortunately, are mostly G3.

Yeah; maybe I’ll skip G3 (like I skipped the first Genesis), but, a while ago,
I finally succeeded in converting my V4-based Kerata to G2F !!

Genesis to G2F was smooth and easy, but V4 to Genesis, that
took several all-nighters to figure out.

Yay! Grats! I know that was a goal that you were pushing for and you succeeded!

G3 is a good one, but only if you want to put some money into it. Like you, I mainly skipped out on G2F, and went straight to G3, so it's a personal preference thing.

ttobserve In reply to Lady-Quantum [2015-09-26 19:42:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

My task for today is to rehearse the V4 to G2F procedure
with a couple of Pegicornitaur physiognomies that I have in my vault;
then I’ll have them in G2F territory and can get into art mode,
as opposed to nerd and push-buttons mode!

In the process, I should take some screenshots and post them
over at Kattey’s thread    on daz3d.

But I mustn’t forget my viewpoint character, and I won’t,
so that I can get at least an opening shot on Welcome to Arrinda...

This first good transfer of mine to G2F is really a pleasant surprise:
looks considerably better than my first visible V4-to-Genesis conversion.

By the time I'm done with G2F, daz3d will be on Genesis five, or nine!

Lady-Quantum In reply to ttobserve [2015-09-26 21:08:06 +0000 UTC]

Wonderful! You'll have a whole process mapped out! GO YOU! And on top of that you'll have some great new G2F characters to do some art with. (Which I expect to see very soon. )

Wow, I hope they don't go releasing another Genesis figure anytime soon... I don't think my heart (or wallet) could take it.

Would you lend me a shoulder?

Robert Louis Stevenson writes that Dr. Jekyll had prepared an antidote
that could turn him back from Hyde to Jekyll, but that subsequently
he could no longer prepare the antidote because, apparently,
the original concoction had contained some contaminant
that was no longer to be found, but was crucial to the antidote’s effectiveness.

That’s how I’m feeling right now:
A key step in converting a V4-based figure to Genesis
was to “Bake” morphforms to transforms, which I did,
a couple of days ago, but now I cannot for the life of me
figure out how to convince DAZ Studio to DO that again!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lady-Quantum In reply to ttobserve [2015-09-28 12:37:11 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't know if my shoulder is what you'd really want. How about a sympathetic ear, and another head to try and help?

I can tell you that you are not alone in having a discovery and then not being able to replicate it on your very next try. I myself wasn't even able to get Iray to work right for me on my second try. How horrible is that?!

I did however find something that might be of use to you.

www.daz3d.com/forums/discussio…

Further down in the thread, legarc talks about the "Edit Morph Export Rules" which may give you some help as to what you are needing. Also, they talk about a problem where you have to select each morph individually? Once again, there's so much jargon talk that I only understand it on a certain lower end level, but I think this could have to do with your "baking" morphoforms into what you need.

Hope this helps!

ttobserve In reply to Lady-Quantum [2015-09-28 23:15:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Well, that forum thread is mainly about fbx export, which,
in my experience, has been disastrous, even with DS4.8.
Collada used to be instant crash until about DS4.5; with 4.8 it's working.
Lots of caveats, but I can get it to send rigged and animated figures into Blender!

As for morphform bakery,   there seems to be a back-door solution,
if only I can succeed, now, in catching up with my sleep!

Good story and the art looks beautiful as always. Not sure who N3WTON is, but I'm sure someone has a theory about him ( Sorry, I had to say it...)
Love the detail in each of the characters and variations you gave them from the anime style LQ to the "heavenly" version I love Gorgeous eyes, long flowing locks of gold, well toned muscles, luscious lips......Wait!!! Where was I ???
Oh, yeah... I like the little quantum signs the younger one is putting up around her and the the muscled LQ's expression is awesome. Nice job with her muscles and athletic figure. I'll always like the coloring tone for her outfit that velvety red color. Nice job with the shine on the boots, too.
Look forward to more of your story as LQ learns about her version of a Mxyzptlk LQ and if they enforce the "Law" against N3WTON. ( Geez, I'm a dork!!)
Awesome job, my friend!!!

N3WT0N is the supervillain name that Paul Haroldsin took when he created an advanced suit of powered armor run off of the same nanites that created Lady Quantum. He got the name from the project title which was Project: Newton, because it was originally created to design a way to defeat a supervillain that had stormed through the city with gravity powers called Graviton.

I'm glad you like the two different versions, though it seems you're kind of stuck on the older version more than the cute one.

This render was done in Iray 3200 x 3200 so lots of detail (like what you see on the boots) and the lighting gives a bit more subtle look to the characters.
