Description
Few people know the burden that heroes carry on their shoulders every day of their lives. It isn't just that they save people and those people's lives are in your hands, but it's also that you might not get there in time, or that those people might not think your actions were done properly. That you say the wrong thing, and the media play you up to be the bad guy because a particular candidate or congressman is gunning for a type of bill at that time. You get the idea.

So that is why heroes have secret identities.

And it's not just to protect us, it's to protect those around us. Family, friends, that neighbor that you don't want blown up by accident even though he steals your newspaper...you know, THAT guy.

Unfortunately, when you have a secret identity, EVERYONE is always out to find it out. The media is like a hungry animal trying to feed on the idea of who the mysterious hero could be under the mask and suit. It's especially bad for us heroins who have to put up with droves of drooling fanboys who have only one thing on their mind when they are thanking you for saving their life. “I wonder what she looks like under that super suit...” It's really kind of sad, but you can't fault them, it's human nature.

So, when Kara and I were attacked in our home in New Detroit...well...we figured it was time for a vacation while the rest of our team tracked down who had done it. I mean...we were compromised. What could we do?

Oh...who am I?

Well, I'm Dr. Terressa Rene' Martin also known as Lady Quantum.

And right now, I and my roommate are laying low by going on vacation to Florida. Yeah. Florida. Disney World no less. Or...at least we were at Disney World.

See...there is something about heroes that makes us restless. Maybe it's something in the metabolism, I'm not sure, I haven't analyzed it yet, but we really don't like to stay sitting around long. So just kind of wandering around at a theme park that is really designed for children under the ages of 15...well...the new wore off of that after the third day.

It was after...oh...about the 50th time we heard it's a small world that Kara turned to me and said, “We need to leave this place before I hit something too hard, like that bus, and bad things start to happen...”

To which I replied, “Yes, that would be very bad... Why don't we pack up, and go on a nice road trip to see the area?”

She agreed. We packed our things and checked out, although when she saw a large Mickey Mouse heading our way at the checkout I thought it was all over. We got in our rented car, a Mazda Miata MX5 club edition with a hard top that folds down. Red, of course. (What? If you are going on vacation, go in style!) And took off for the coast.

We meandered along the coast with smiles on our faces, and wind in our hair, feeling free for the first time in days if not weeks, as we stopped at antique stores to just look and pick up a few nick nacks, and even stopped in a nice seafood restaurant to eat fresh food. It was wonderful!

By the time we got through, the afternoon sun was up and it was getting nice and hot. We'd entered a kind of industrial area on our right with the beach on our left. As we kept going down the highway, we spotted a long smooth patch of beach that appeared perfect for sunbathing and swimming, and there appeared to be a recreation area of some kind as well.

We pulled off of the highway to a sign marked Titan's Cove.

Once in the parking area, we found the changing area and put on our swimsuits. I in my shiny red with white straps and gold holders, and Kara with her knitted blue with black straps. Were they a bit skimpy? Well...yes...but I hadn't been on a vacation in...well...ever, so I was wanting to make a statement and that statement was BOOYAH! We went back to the car, pulled out the towels, and went out onto the hot sand to lay out, already working up a bit of a sweat.

“Nothing wrong with a little fun in the sun, right Kara?” I teased.

“No, nothing at all. As long as I get to put on the lotion first.” she winked and smiled back at me tossing the lotion from one of her hands to the other.

After a bit of giggling, and a few sighs of content, Kara had put the lotion on me, and I returned the favor, to a few sensual sighs, and even a couple moans.

“Why Kara, I would almost think you were aroused...” I grinned.

“Whatever gave you THAT idea???” she smiled coyly back at me fluttering her eyes innocently.

“Oh you!” and I tossed the lotion at her before plopping down on the towel to tan. Kara followed suit, and time seemed to pass uneventfully before we started hearing a turbine like noise whining in the distance.

“Do you hear that?” I asked Kara.

Kara with her superior hearing picked it up instantly. “Something is flying this way. High speed. Seems the police have been alerted, but they are being outrun. Some kind of...*sighs*...villain...”

“Oh you have GOT to be freaking KIDDING me!!!” I fumed.

“We should really stay out of this...” Kara pointed out.

“It's a villain! We're heroes! It's our job!” I got up and began to pace, working the options around in my head. I couldn't even remember if I'd brought my super suit with me, but I always wore a version of the bracers or bracelets on my person.

“We're on vacation Terry. We're not even dressed for this..let it go...” Kara replied more emphatically hopping up from her spot on her towel to grasp my hand trying to keep me on the ground. “Please? It's not worth it.” she pleaded.

“That VILLAIN, is INTERRUPTING my vacation...” I said with anger. I'd had enough. I'd been ousted out of my own city, forced to basically not be what I normally am, and now I couldn't even relax without having some jerk in rocket boots messing up my vacation! It just wasn't fair!

At that point the villain came into range, flying overhead in some kind of powered armor, as I raised my head to look up at him in the sky.
