PERSONALITY:
Positive character traits: Extremely loyal to her friends (feels like they are family and treats them as such), Has a fairly good sense of humor and wit that she does use to throw off opponents, Unflinching courage and force of will.
Negative character traits: She has a bit of a temper when confronted by someone trying to hurt her friends. (This does not impair her judgment, but makes her more prone to attacking than accepting surrender.), She is a bit vain about her looks. (She has come to accept how she is, and enjoys the attention most of the time.), Sometimes she comes off as being too logical about something, spouting off facts that practically put someone to sleep. (Another side effect of her change)
Likes: Reading, Flying fast, Walks on the beach, Classical music, Loves children
Dislikes: Anything related to loosing ones memories or sense of self. (It's a phobia.) Such as Alzheimer's. Rest Homes, Women who portray themselves as bimbos or airheads. (Another thing that can set off her temper.)
POWERS AND ABILITIES
Quantum Energy Control: Controling the fundimental forces of space, time, energy, and matter in the universe, Lady Quantum can do just about anything...IF she can figure it out. The problem with any power is in how much of it you understand, and none more so than what Lady Quantum has unlocked within herself. Doctorates in physics, human physiology/biology, and engineering have served her well so far, but there could be even more to her should she learn more.
Examples of powers include:
1.Super-Human Strength: Can maneuver and fight with weights up to 100 tons with no issues, allowing her to perform several feats of super strength, such as Crushing super hard things in her hands, clapping her hands together and causing a Thunderclap, or stomping on the ground and causing a Shockwave.
2.Quantum Energy Enhanced Strength (Lifting Str 25,000 tons): Using her power over gravitons to either lighten the load, or increase her own lifting ability, Quantum has tested up to 25,000 tons of weight.
3.Super-Human Stamina: Quantum has several abilities tied to her physical Stamina, namely her body's Durability, and Resiliency. Regeneration of her physical structure, happens almost instantly with little delay time, making her a true Hardbody.
4.Super-Human Dexterity/Speed: Not extending into the realm of running super fast like the Flash, this represents her ability to react faster than normal, think faster, and ability for her body to then perform actions based on those reactions. Rapid Striking, a certain degree of Enhanced Movement, the ability to perform Fast Tasks like making things in half the time, are all within her ability.
5.Flight Supersonic (64,000 mph): Literally flying faster than the eye can follow she can really move when she needs to, displacing air around her and causing sonic booms that can cause disorienting effects if used properly.
6.Immunity(Life Support) Can survive the rigors of space and other hostile environments. Quantum doesn't NEED to eat, drink, or breathe to survive...but how is that fun?
7.Innate Protective Field (Her body is surrounded by a constant field of force that doesn't dissipate even when she is unconscious. This along with her Stamina, Regeneration, and Immunity make her extremely hard to hurt.)
8.Appearance Alteration (“Dorming Down”): In order to “hide” Terressa is able to suppress her abilities and look like she did before her accident, becoming smaller and loosing much of her muscular appearance. In so doing, she is also suppressing most all of her super abilities in order to be undetectable as anything other than a normal human, so she is just a vulnerable in this state as anyone else. The only real exception, power-wise, is her mental thinking speed, and reaction abilities, which, if she's distracted, could get her into trouble. It takes a kind of passive concentration to stay in her Dr. Martin form, so if she is knocked out, she would revert to her Lady Quantum form. It takes no real time for Terressa to stop concentrating, however it does take at least a few moments for her body to change back into the Lady Quantum form.
9.Molecular Manipulation/Disintegration: Being able to manipulate atomic particles, means that Quantum is able to manipulate matter or undo the bonds that bind matter together, reshaping it to her will. This is a very destructive power and Quantum does not use it lightly, because she feels that things are made a certain way for a reason.
10.Enhanced Senses (“Quantum Vision”): A kind of extra sensory suite that Quantum has developed using her abilities in various ways to give her an edge. Quantum Vision abilities include:
Electromagnetic Spectrum Sight: By processing and amplifying waves in the middle end of the electromagnetic spectrum Quantum is able to produce a number of visual sensory abilities such as:
Ultraviolet Vision: or being able to see in the "UV" spectrum allows her to see clearly anytime UV illumination is present (sun, moon, stars). Like a cat, with this vision mode she can see in near total darkness, as long as there is SOME form of light. In total blackness, she cannot see with this vision mode.
Infrared Vision: or able to see in the "IR" spectrum allows her to not only see anything illuminated by IR light, but also see the heat given off by living things and hot objects. Hotter is brighter, cooler is darker.
Visible Light Attunement: by amplifying visible light waves, Quantum can magnify objects in her line of sight as if she were a high-powered telescopic scope or electron microscope. This obviously helps when viewing things at distances to keep her safe when flying, but also helps when needing to inspect something on the atomic level.
High-End Electromagnetic Scan: by being able to send and receive waves from the gamma and x-ray end of the electromagnetic spectrum Quantum is able to "see" through solid objects giving her that good old fashioned Superman feel sometimes.
Ultra-peripheral Vision: because Quantum is attuned to the energy fields of everything around her, she has a 360-degree sense of what is going on around her without turning her head. Much like sonar, it can give her positioning, but it is more detailed and not limited to a frontal visual cone from her eyes.
11.”Quantum Blast”: A ranged Energy Attack that has a variable energy type and can be “shaped” into different sizes and areas for different effects. Much like Molecular Manipulation, Quantum doesn't use this without much thought. Throwing around destructive blast may sound fun, but it racks up repair bills for people, so she makes sure to hit her target when she does this. She's also gotten very good about stunning her opponent with the right type of energy using this attack.
12.”Quantum Supremacy”: Quantum's ability to Enhance, Transform, Intensify, Reduce, and otherwise manipulate all kinds of energies including gravitic, kinetic, and even human neurons. She has even used this power to empower other individuals with abilities similar to her own only in lesser versions that have proven to be temporary, and permanent (though far less powerful) thus far.
13.Temporal Manipulation: Quantum has shown that she has, on a several occasions, been able to manipulate the fabric of time and space by teleporting herself through intervening space and by traversing time in short bursts. She has even opened portals to allow instantaneous travel to other places. These manipulations usually use tremendous amounts of power and leaves her weakened after she has used the power. On at least one occasion, she was weakened enough to be hurt badly by a bladed weapon, though her skin and physique still remained enhanced and toughened. Lady Quantum is still learning to use this power, and all it's ramifications.
WEAKNESSES AND LIMITS:
Like any other powerful character there are chinks in her armor, most of which are social or mental. For instance, she has no mental defense per se, but her brain processes information like a super computer, super-humanly fast. Material is processed, usually, unless she is somehow distracted, in just nano-seconds, so while a telepath can get in, the chances of getting anything useful are slim to none, as is being able to try and control her mind. It just moves too fast to pin it down, or do anything to harm her. She also has an iron will that that one could say borders on being forceful. Social attacks, on the other hand, are extremely effective because Terressa has become an even more social creature since receiving her powers. Suddenly being thrust into the world in which everyone is going to look at her instead of ignoring her has made her acutely aware of how her opinions can matter, and make a difference. Things that affect her friends, and others are the main ways to try and attack her, but be warned. She won't take kindly to it, and won't sit still while it's happening.
Physically, while in her Lady Quantum form, she is, for all practical purposes, immortal, due to her incredible healing powers and defensive abilities, however, she does not stay in her Lady Quantum form all the time, instead affecting her original Dr. Terressa R. Martin form. In this form she is just as vulnerable physically as a normal human, and could be killed like normal. Whether or not a change after she were to receive a killing blow of some kind would save her life, is unknown at this time.
Addendum: It has recently been shown that magic, and magical phenomena have the ability to severely weaken Lady Quantum's ability to defend herself. Her normally toughened skin and shields were unable to stop attacks from magical beasts (cursed werewolves. See File: Red Riding Hood Gang
Mature Content
) and she became cursed herself. While her offensive powers seemed up to the task of defeating them, her defensive abilities appeared compromised. It is unclear if her healing ability is one of those, though it is shown that the near instantaneous nature of it was at least slowed down by the bite and claws of the werewolf that attacked her. Her conjecture is that while her powers are based on theory, that theory is based on solid scientific principles, and magic is based on a wholly different set of unscientific principles that that run counter to her powers. Literally an antithesis to Quantum Theory, would be Magical Theory. Quantum Theory sets out to explain why, and Magical Theory says, "Because I said so."
BACKSTORY:
Dr. Terressa Martin was a research scientist working on a top secret project called Project: N3WT0N, which was formed to defeat a gravity based super villain in New Detroit. While working on a nanite based way to stop the villain, the lab exploded, nearly killing Terressa, and embedding the nanites into her body. After being rushed to the hospital, her two lead assistants figured out a way to retask the nanites within her to heal her burned and broken body, however, one of them, Paul Haroldson, who was the one that had sabotaged her in the lab decided to go one step further with the nanites, and tasked them to change Terressa into a tall, blonde, buxom, bimbo with an IQ of 20. His dream girl. The other assistant, Tina Browning, found out his plan and managed to find out his lockout pass code for the nanites, but not before she was shot trying to escape. She managed to get the pass code to Terressa before she died and Terressa was able to stop the change before her higher mental functions had been impaired. The physical changes couldn't be reversed, but with them came new power in the form of being able to manipulate gravitons, the theorized elemental partical that controls gravity, when the stress of seeing Tina dying in her arms activated the genetic alterations for “perfection” the nanites had added to her DNA. This “eruption” of power finished her change into the blonde bombshell that would come to be known as Lady Quantum, and she rushed to take revenge on Haroldson for the death of Tina. After a confrontation with Haroldson, who had created a powered armor based on the nanites in Terressa's blood. The armor gave him gravity type powers as well, and the battle raged across the city's landscape before she finally left him in a coma at a hospital, however, he eventually died from his injuries. As part of her penance, she joined a team of heroes allied with the police department to get training, and began helping to clean up the damage she had done, as well as helping the downtrodden and gang-ridden sections of the city. After battling gangs, and even super villains, her powers evolved into new abilities in manipulating all kinds of atomic and quantum particles, before other adventures with other villains ended up taking her out of New Detroit, all over the world and finally to Dream Haven's West End.

That is quite a lot of powers and information. Congratulations on taking the time to get it all down. I don't think anyone can accuse you of being short on the details ^_^
If I may nit-pick, though? You may want to reword her flaws. For example, in her negative personality traits, you said that she had a temper, but it doesn't actually interfere with her ability to reason. While it is true that Super Heroes aren't generally supposed to kick the crap out of people who are willing to surrender, the fact that you imply the only way to get her that mad in the first place is to try to harm the people she cares about, in which case whoever did it probably had it coming and isn't exactly helpless.
And in her weaknesses, you say that she doesn't have any mental defenses, but then immediately backpedal and say that her brain works so fast that she's basically immune to psychic attack anyway. I'd recommend either re-wording that, or flat out moving it up onto her powers list if it's not actually something that can be exploited.

I see what you mean there, but I did put her "speed" under her powers which included thinking faster. I just didn't go into as much detail in that section about the mental ramifications. You are not the first to point out this discrepancy, and it is there on purpose. It is there for storytelling. Quantum doesn't have mental defense per se, such as psychic shielding, telepathy, or even training to combat mental attacks. All she has is her iron will and the fact that her mind moves faster than most can follow. If a person can overcome that, like anything, then they are in, and she has no real way to get them out unless they mess up, or it's part of the story.
If I was somehow unclear with that, then I am sorry, and I'm all about trying to make things more understandable for people. So if folks have suggestions, feel free to note me about it, and I'll see what I can do.

Ah, you're right! I missed the part about the super-speed/dexterity extending to her mind as well. Not normally something I'd expect, so that slip up is on me XD
Now I understand. In that case, I actually have something similar going on for at least one of my characters. It makes sense, though maybe just to clarify you could say something to the effect of "Between her willpower and superhumanly quick brain, Quantum is a difficult target for most psychics, though lacks proper defences against sufficiently powerful or experienced ones". Essentially, the goal is to have her not be totally helpless against anyone with psychic powers and be able to at least struggle against characters with that as a focus , or am I way off?
And I really do appreciate you being willing to take the time to explain all this to me. It really does mean a fair bit

Actually you are spot on, but I guess my wording wasn't making that impression like it should have.
As for taking the time, that's what DA is about right? Sharing ideas and getting feedback? Your input means a lot to me as well.

Well, your wording was a little ambiguous, but as you can see you weren't too far off since I was able to get it with minimal explanation from you. And now that this is all written down in comment form, anyone who reads this conversation will understand as well. ^_^
That certainly is the ideal DA is built around! Well, I'm relieved that my comment didn't come across as obnoxious or anything, and it was wonderful speaking with you.

Well, I didn't want to leave something off and have someone come to me and say, "Hey, that's not in her listed powers."
Quantum, like most characters should be, is an ever changing work in progress. Heck, I play her in a RPG on Saturday nights. The character stays the same, but she grows in experience and power just like any character does. Now I get to share those adventures with all of you.

Okay, it just seems like quite a long list of top-class powers and high skills that are supposed to be balanced out by two or three minor weaknesses.
I mean, is it really worth putting "no mental defense" down as a weakness, given that straight afterward you seem to say that while it is possible for a telepath to enter her mind, they wouldn't really be able to do anything in there anyway? If anything that sounds to me like trying to disguise another strength as a weakness. As for attacking her while she's "dormed down" I think it really depends on how long/how much effort it takes to reactivate her powers. If she can power up again within few seconds, it's kind of like attacking a Hulk while they're in human form, which would have a pretty slim chance of success and a comparatively very high chance of getting pulverised a few seconds later.
I'm not trying to get at you, I just can't help feeling that maybe it's all a bit much.

Lady-Quantum In reply to Stick-bag [2014-03-13 19:29:01 +0000 UTC]
Fair enough questions. Let me answer them as best I can.
When designing the character, first she was in a video game, with built in limits and such that could not be broken, however as time progressed, and the character evolved from video game to actual role playing character to one that was the focus of storytelling, those built in limits broke down and became irrelivent. Such is the case here with Quantum's lack of mental defense. It's a storytelling tool. A villain could get into her head, poke around, might even start to get some information after hooking up a computer that is fast enough to translate the data, but then with a supreme act of will, Quantum manages to escape! Or does she? Or maybe it's only with the help of friends that come to her rescue that she is freed from the villains clutches and her mind freed.
You see, it is there as a tool to keep her open so that stories can flow and be creative. Not just for me, but for others. All of it becomes relative to the story that is being told.
Her being able to be attacked while dormed down is much the same way. A way to add suspense that she CAN be attacked and hurt, with the notion that she can also get back in the fight very quickly that adds a sense of suspense to the situation. People will think to themselves after a villain knocks out Dr. Martin, "Man he better hurry up and not let her wake up..." Which was always the response that people had that Bruce Banner had on the old Hulk TV series. That kind of "uh oh" moment.
I hope this is able to at least show that Lady Quantum is here for good storytelling. Not to wave her powers around and say, "Look at me! I've got the biggest stick!", because that, to me, is not what Angel Falls is about. Angel Falls is about the stories of the lives of heroes and villains that live here. Those lives are what is important, not the powers they have.

Stick-bag In reply to Lady-Quantum [2014-03-13 20:14:57 +0000 UTC]
I agree that Angel Fall is primarily about characters and stories rather than powers, and I understand your intention with Lady Quantum (for the record, I never thought your goal was to create a really powerful character just to show off), but at the same time surely you must understand that people might struggle to imagine interesting stories with a hero that's got as wide a powerset at levels as high as Lady Quantum.
I mean, people complain that Superman makes for boring stories, and what you've got here, power-wise, is essentially a Kryptonian with limited space/time/matter control instead of heat vision and freezing breath, and no crippling Kryptonite weakness to balance it all out. I realise that's an over-simplification, but it's still difficult to imagine any current villain posing a legitimate threat to her, besides threatening her loved ones and/or non-powered friends.

Lady-Quantum In reply to Stick-bag [2014-03-13 20:38:49 +0000 UTC]
Kai: I understand completely what you're saying. However, I put to you that people still seem to enjoy stories with heroes such as Superman (or our own Soviet Superwoman) even when Kryptonite doesn't come into play. Big bad enemies, that have taken multiple heroes to face, because that was the story. Anything can be written, and I'm sure that the way Quantum is translated by different writers and artists will be a bit different depending on how they (and I) want the story to go. The main thing to remember is that Quantum is still a doctor and country girl at heart. You might be surprised what could become a threat.
Dr. Martn: Awww MAN! I broke a NAIL!

Stick-bag In reply to Lady-Quantum [2014-03-13 22:04:27 +0000 UTC]
Ah, but that's the thing. Lady Quantum isn't really a character like Superman or Soviet Superwoman, is she? She's one of those characters plus a number of additional top-tier powers. It's like the difference between Superman and The Sentry. Not that she's anywhere near as bad as The Sentry, but you get my point.
For instance, Olga, one of AF's most powerful heroes, once took on Ultrawoman, one of AF's most powerful and dangerous villains, in an epic, gruelling, multi-chapter fight that almost killed her. Looking at LQ's profile, I can't shake the feeling that she probably wouldn't find that same fight quite as difficult. Do you see what I mean? Her powerset effectively suddenly diminishes a large number of villains and disasters, and there's kind of the implication that she'd have to hold herself back a fair amount to keep these situations as interesting and gripping as they would be for less powerful heroes. I know that would also be the case for, say, Thor taking on a Spider-Man villain, but still...
I'm sorry, I'm not barging my way in and saying "you must weaken her now, blargh!", this is just how I feel after seeing this profile.

Oh, I definitely see what you are saying given this example. In a straight up brawl, power versus power, Lady Quantum would have the advantage. At least on paper. Somehow I don't think a woman of Vyrn-na's calibre of villainy would go after Lady Quantum without knowing her enemy. Setting her up, if you will. Ultrawoman is MUCH older than Quantum (though don't tell her I said that ) and with age comes wisdom. Quantum may be smart, but a lot of that is book smarts. She may even be able to think fast, but she's limited on her knowledge base. She has all this power, IF she can figure out how to use it right. I don't think Ultrawoman would give her the chance to bring that power to bear if it came to that. However, once again, it depends on the story.

There are other major threats, though. I don't know how much planning The God Damn Siege would do, for example. Plus, having power limited by knowledge is all well and good, but with doctorates in three different subjects and superhuman brain processing, I'm sure you could forgive me for thinking that in her case it's not that much of a limitation. It's not like Firestorm where he's basically a normal guy who has to be taught physics on the fly by a voice in his head.
Anyway, I guess my main point is to just be very careful. Without beating around the bush, she's a really powerful character with, from what I can tell, very few real flaws or weaknesses. Such a character can be difficult to handle correctly, especially if she's the lead in a series.
Mind you, this might all be a wee bit rich of me given that I haven't even got my own characters off the ground yet.

Yes. She had to be able to reach speeds that would allow her to, say, stop that meteor from hitting Earth, and other over the top things. When I put it to a calculator, this is the number I ended up with. (Approx Mach 15 I believe.) Thanks for being on the ball! Can't get anything past you folks!

I'm a big fan of the secret ID. Not because such a thing is against the law, but because I find that it would be a necessity. With villains able to get out of prisons to then come after the hero or heroine that put them there, not having a secret identity puts those hero's family and friends at risk. I am particularly reminded of the DC character Elongated Man, who chose to have no secret identity and it ended up first killing his wife, and finally killing him through the events of Identity Crisis. I'll actually be delving more into this very soon, as this was the cause that brought Terry and Kara to Angel Falls to begin with.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It works really well with some characters, like Spider-Man and Batman, and some don't need it, like The Fantastic Four and Dr. Strange or Captain America. It does depend on what happened in that characters life and there personality.
I've always liked how the X-Men handled it. Only someone like Beast or Archangel kept the real selfs hidden while Jean and Gambit walked around with out masks for most of there lifes.

True enough. It always depends on the character, and how they deal with their hero status. And of course the storytelling.

Well, in comics, a lot of the time, death is a metaphysical inconvenience.

Wow, this is one ridiculously overpowered character, even if she didn't trample the strength cap. How can you possibly have any fight against her be interesting when she'd curb stomp her opponant in two seconds?

Okay...well first off let me thank you for taking the time to view my work. I appreciate that.
Next, I'd like to point out that her lifting strength is only augmented by her ability to manipulate gravitons, not her actual physical strength which is still at the physical cap of 100 tons. So we should be good there.
As far as fights with her being interesting, I believe that is all in the storytelling, not in how much weight someone can lift nor what kind of energy they wield. The Humpdays story lines showed that God-like characters can be beaten because of the choices they make. Lady Quantum is no exception to this rule, and one thing people should remember is that unlike villains with such great powers, she isn't out to seriously hurt or kill anyone. Especially after what happened in her very first outing with her powers.

I have to say you did an excellent job on the image as well as the Bio. Talk about a powerful Heroine! And the costume is on point. I think that's one of the hardest parts: Coming up with a killer costume that fits the concept of the character. Been struggling with that for months now. Glad to see you pulled it off.

I've had this costume on Quantum in video games for probably two years now, but couldn't find a way to bring it out until now. These wonderful artists were able to help me, and I can't thank them enough.
Thank you very much for the praise of my work. It's always wonderful to hear that you've done something well, and that people like it.
I'm sure that you'll be able to get your costume ideas off the ground as well. Hope, trust and pixie dust, right?
