Description
This is my first tutorial, so I hope it really helps some people. A neat effect, written in a REALLY user-friendly way. I wrote out every direction and where each button and option is, so even the most new-to-Photoshop person could use it, so if the more advanced Photoshop users could bear with me!Enjoy.
Update: Wow, this tutorial's had over 1200 views! Thanks so much to everyone for taking a look! Please post any art made using this tutorial, so I can link it!

hi, im usnig cs5 currently and i couldn't work out how you got the channel pallet t come up? so left it out, then i got stuck on the displace part, since when i type that in, and enter it it brings me to an open window so i can "open a displace map" so im kinda confused by that...

Wonderful tutorial. However, I have a problem. I use photoshop 7 and when I get to the step where I have to change the perspective of the water my 'transform' button becomes 'unclickable.' Even if I did exactely what you told me to in the tutorial. Have you ever had this problem?

No, unfortunately, but then again when I made this tutorial I was using Photoshop CS2, and have since moved up to CS5. Sorry.

Pressing D in Photoshop usually resets the colors to black foreground, white background. If it's not working, for some reason, you can do it manually.

Very nice tutorial. I used it here: [link]
One problem that I ran into though was that when I applied the displacementmap onto the 400% layer it cut off anything outside of the picture frame (Using CS2). Don't know if I'm doing anything wrong, but I got around it by copying the 400% into a picture of it's own and work that way.

Hmm... You might have highlighted the canvas whenapplying the displacement, which would confine the filter simply to what fit into the canvas. If you deselect, THEN apply the filter, everything should be right as reign.

Hmm, I guess I need a little bit more help. I tried to apply the displacement, but it always comes out looking wrong somehow, and I don't know if that's because I messed up in the displacement process or something else. ; ;
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
Lady-Tima In reply to rabidbunnyd [2008-07-26 00:45:49 +0000 UTC]
Well, it depends. It might be a mess-up in the displacement filter itself, or it might be a weird number in the filter process. Could I maybe see the filter file, or an example of something made with it?

lol, nvm, my quick mask was backwards when I created the displacement xD *smacks self* and I didn't seperate the gradient from the reflection, which kind of helps a bit ^^
