Finally, Daidoji Moro, my newest character for the RPG Legend of the Five Rings is ready. I had tried to go for a rather Princess Mononoke Mempo and Helmet Ensemble... (notice the huge white fur mane) but my first try wound up looking more feline than wolfish.Now, I'm rather happy with this one... looks very wolfish -- although some people said it looks dragon-ish? I really must get my animal anatomy better....

yes. I can tell that you have ben somehwat inspired by Mononoke Hime what with the way the costume looks and the character herself but I still think It looks very neat and interesting.

Very nice work. The shading and design are awesome and, for whatever reason, I really like the emotionless look on the girl's face. I think the mask looks slightly off-angle with the face, as if the head it is on should be turned a bit more towards the viewer. But that's just me.
Anyway, awesome piece.

You're right, of course... her left eye is also too low, when compared to the right one... but I can't really correct it manually, because that is the trouble with the heavy penciled drawings: you can't change anything unless you want a graphite smeared mess.

That mempo looks like it was made of wood... and I really like the movement as she pulls the string. That is so life-like.
There is another contrast... not just darkness and light, but the mempo looks ancient and her face looks so young. Hard and soft, static and dynamic.

Awwww, our lion daimyo is a softie deep down inside. I really like that you enjoyed the picture so much - I tried to create a contrast also with the violent and scary mempo/helmet and the kind, slightly well-humoured and soft face of the samurai-ko. Since she's a Crane, she needs scary mempos to scare her opponents... with a face like that, I don't think she can intimidate anyone... sigh... it's a hard life for the Crane.

But scary mempos are great, regardless of anything. I like those with a beard and moustache the best. Though I admit that she would look weird in one of those.
I thought it was a dragon at first, but when I took
a better look I could see that it was clearly a wolf head...
I love how well you did the depth in this... I get a sence that
I'm not just looking at a drawing, but a person... She seems
very... erm... I dunno... Real I suppose would be the correct
word.

I'm happy you like it... a friend of mine complained that she should have more expression, since she's in battle garb... but I like the serenity -- compared to the possible incoming violence that will follow her wake.
