Description
This one is no doubt one of my favourites. For some strange reason, it merely began as a fashion design for Sakura's (my L5R character -- yes I tend to draw LOTS of images for RPG characters) kimono. Even stranger, not only did I finish the drawing in two afternoons, but I made it in photocopy paper, no less -- which I abhorr using since it tears at the slightest rubbering. *shrugs* Go figure.I had this very image in my head the night before I did it, and I fell asleep thinking of it --maybe that's why it wound up so well? I think it does deserve to be colored, and it would if I knew how to color (of course, first I would have to get rid of the lead pencil shading, but that's another problem). I would also like to insert a nice background here but I still have no ideas... suggestions, anyone?
For those l5r-savy, Sakura's pose is actually a private joke -- in the RPG, I chose for her as a sensei Kakita Rekkusu, a Crane Personality who (in his card image) is holding a branch of sakura (cherry blossom) in his hand just like Sakura-chan. Get the card and see what I mean.

I love the picture! But I'm curious... Her sword is quite a different one.. did you just draw A sword or is it a certain style or type?

Like I said, this picture was not intended to be a "good" drawing. It was just a kind of sketch I always do when I'm getting ready to draw character pictures -- I NEVER EVER create their clothes at the moment I do the "final" drawing, as they (along with most accessories) are created from before.
It was what happened with her sword -- she wound up having a mixed sword -- it had the elements of a normal katana, but with some original elements, and even a small wink to THE sword of the Crane, if that's what you're reffering to.

Wunnerful pose. ^-^ I think it would be awesome coloured, too. The shading's a bit of a problem, but if I want to colour a pencil sketch I'll line it in ink first, let it dry REALLY well, then erase the pencil and go from there. You usually get some pencil residue left over, but pretty much any colour medium will hide that.

First I'll have to gather the courage to ink it... maybe I'll get drunk... but since I'm going to ink, that's a BAAAAAD idea (unless I want Sakura-chan to end up with beard and a mustache). So, naaaah, I don't think it will happen....

Thanks.... lOL I adore the visual design of a Katana, even though I still can't grasp it perfectly. If you liked this one, don't miss my next drawing in the Doji Sakura Series: "A Hot Day in Rokugan" where you get to see how a wakizashi can be sensuous... (okay, so I was told it was nearly hentai, but hey, it's still art, right?)

A very beautiful piece, especially the design of the kimono. Her hair could have more straying wisps, instead of staying together in one mass. Just a suggestion. ^^

Yes, you're absolutely right... I must consider redraw it... but like I said this piccie wasn't even supposed to be particularly elaborated -- it was just going to be a sketch for later reference -- when I would do a piccie from the character I would have an image of her quimono handy. I never expected it to come up so nicely.

As someone said earlier, I really like your style too
I love her dress too! The detail is great, and as for a background... hmm... well, I'm really bad at backgrounds myself.
The background will be in pencil too, yes? And will it be some sort of landscape or sort of abstract? ^^

LadyEntropy In reply to Aniviel [2003-12-12 18:03:10 +0000 UTC]
*is also very happy her style pleases Miss Aniviel-sama* WEll, I expect the background will be a landscape with a few cherry trees around -- which in itself is a problem, since I don't know very well how to draw landscapes... sigh. I need to find a good photography book -- maybe with Japan landscapes.

Awwwwwwww..... shucks, that's so nice of you..... I really like you enjoy my drawings, especially since this one began as a mere doodle -- sometimes drawings take life of their own, and when you realize it, they've become bigger than life. Has this happened to any of your drawings?

Well, sometimes I have a feeling that my drawings have a will of their own kinda like the precioussss..... Er.. I mean the ring in LOTR. ^w^; Oh and ppl often tells me that my characters are pretty expressive, so yeah, I guess we could say that drawings or the characters in it have a life of their own. ^w^
