Wow, thanks, this is great! Though, those are zebra stripes that appear in horses with the dun gene.

Sorry to say, but these are not called brindle markings. The stripes on the legs are called leg barring or zebra stripes and are always part of dun colored horses.
Brindle is something complete different and looks different than this.
Brindle markings are more like a lot of little dots or interrupted stripes in a row.

Im not saying your wrong or anything, but arent brindle markings supposed to be on the back to? Thats what I read online, on a brindle horse association of some sort :/

Doesn't have to be. Legs are common too.

Does this work the same way for reverse/white brindle?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ladynaevia In reply to Remykles [2012-11-14 04:47:18 +0000 UTC]

It definitely could, I would use a soft white brush set on low opacity, but use it the same way.

Okay I'll definitely have to look into using this technique when I get asked to do a brindle of primitive marked horse. I'll let ya know the end product as well.

Thanks for the tutorial!

Although I didn't use the burn tool; I used adjustment layers and a mask. XD

Holla, that helped immensely! Totally different to the way I was going to go about it, honestly. I was getting ready to draw the markings on a separate layer and then fool around with opacity and such. But the burning sounds way easier. Thanks so much, dear!

Oh goodness no. Drawing them is too much extra work! Just make sure
you have your burn tool set to midtones...

Hey hey, I gotta tell you something!
You know your boy Regulus? I got inspired to create a character from his world. The Arena. I don't know, but the idea just hit me and I thought I should tell you about it. I thought she would be a mare who secretly loved Regulus but never found the courage to tell him so, and then once he left, she realized she couldn't stay at the Arena any longer and decided to strike off to find him. W000t. xD

OMG! Can I see her??? I'm super psyched!
We shall have to make manips of them!

duskbeguile In reply to ladynaevia [2011-07-11 03:44:37 +0000 UTC]

I haven't made her yet, loool. Actually, I have an art trade I'm doing with someone and I asked them to make her. But I am definitely planning on making a manip of her sometime soon! In fact, we should make a chronicle story about them. That would be so fun. xD

She's named Decima though, and is black with blue eyes and has Celtic markings. She's also got the trademark horn going on as well.

a story about them.
