Amur Tiger again of course, I've gotten to really enjoy these trips to the zoo in bad weather. They seem so much more active than they are when the park is crowded with visitors and warm in the summer. There was nobody around, 'cept for me and him. Well he was laying on the flank of another, but I couldn't see her face. Yes, I've giving them genders. I don't know if I'm right, but he seemed male. Yep.

Yeah. I did a whole Flash project last semester based on tigers and that very fact.

Dont know much about fotography, but seems like a nice shot.
Havent you fotographed this one earlier? Pardon my ignorance, but is 'Amur' his name or is it some sub species or something?

ladynightseduction In reply to abhivg [2006-04-10 13:40:13 +0000 UTC]

No, it's a species of tiger. And yes I've photographed him often recently. Normally the tigers tend to stick to the corners where they can hide from the crowds at the zoo. But, with the bad weather there's been hardly any people when I've visited. So I've taken tons of shots, rather a glutton I suppose, for I rarely get to see him out in the open.

This is awesome, it's very reminiscent of this picture taken by a National Geographic photographer that came to our school to share his story about Asiatic lions...

He is looking straight in the camera: you've catch the perfect moment.
And the crop is fantastic. What else? Oh... yes...

Your pictures are just....getting more and more gorgeous each time you upload them. I keep thinking if they can get any better, but you prove me wrong.

Great strategy with going in bad weather, although you can't tell by the photograph -- I love how it has such a calm, relaxed atmosphere, not to mention that beautiful cat himself.

Great pose but I'm going to go technical on you ... The twig is in focus but what we want is his eyes in focus. So you have used f5.6, cams focused on the foreground and teh tiges face has dropped into the out of focus zone.. we need about F8 to over come that.OR
I set the camera to focus using the centre red spot only.(handbook) Take a bead on his eye and hold down the shutter to lock the focus and then move the cam to reframe the shot and Fire. Make sense? F 5.6 woud probably be OK in this instance.

Get all the technical details you want Seeker...err Give. I stood there, and the light wasn't the best. So I was switiching apetures and speeds. I agree the twig is the focus point. Which, yes I agree again. I can frame the shot with the pushing the shutter half and recompose. Though of them all that day, this one seemed the best. I'll get better with these comments though, thank you.

The trick is not to be beguiled ( good word) by the shot to the point where you forget to concentrate on the hard work of fotography.... and that puss cat had a seductive look in his eye!

Yeah, then animal rights activists would be popping cages open right and left, and we'd have high tigers racing around the city. Which in and of itself could be funny.
