....I-I'm so sorry, *Curenio . ;v;Her birthday was in January.
It's now June, and I didn't even finish coloring a quarter of the lineart for the piece I drew for her. But, well, I figured I might as well throw this up here, kinda as an apology... because I'm not sure I can finish that picture anymore. I'm having a lot of trouble coloring these days, and though I managed to eventually work it out on Kimren here, I couldn't do the same for the rest of the picture.
I've been kind of in limbo with my art lately, and in particular with my coloring (though it's never been my strong point, really), avoiding full-blown CG pictures at all costs and hence doodling everywhere instead. I want to try and learn new processes and methods of lining and coloring, ways that'll actually WORK for me and not cost me forever and a half of painful indecision and re-doing things and always adjusting colors digitally, but that might take me a while to grasp. This is still kind of a lame excuse, but for now, it's all I can offer.
Sorry for being so terrible at this, Curenio, and hope that, well, I don't know, this'll make up for my fail? A little? I've fudged with Kim's design a bit and took way too long obsessing over dumb details, so I'm sorry how late this is, and how unsatisfactory.
Just know that you're a friggin' amazing person, and that your characters are the best. I hope to have the chance to draw some of them again soon!

I, um-- I also really like the folds in his pants. It sounds awkward (I LIKE STARING AT HIS CROTCH), but you captured the material really well! I was surprised to see that you were having trouble coloring this, because it looks very clean and smooth and carefully-done.

that's a good ref there...don't be fooled though, a lot of people color things normally but then just mess around with the contrast settings. It's a good thing to do to get more ideas and to learn from it, but often times people use it as a crutch.

The more you draw the closer you will get to how you want it to be.
And besides...if you could draw perfectly then you wouldn't need to draw. Right? Because there'd be no surprise. You'd know you could make a perfect picture so you wouldn't need to do it.

Don't worry, just keep doing what you're doing, try new styles, and just try not to think too hard about what you make. If you go with your instinct, I'm sure you'll find your "style."

Would you stop apologizing? You've been incredibly busy with life and everything else, so I'm sure she understands. I think it's great that you're working on your coloring and doing your best to improve. I really need to relearn how to color digitally.
But GOD, this is gorgeous. I mean, just the skin! JUST THE COLORING ON THE SKIN! =0 It's just incredibly, everything you put into it. And his clothes are awesome, and his EYES and his HAIR and the shading in the hair- this really looks professional, ya know.

But yeah, I think what also really messed me up for this picture was the lighting. I was being WAY too ambitious with it, and I really need to learn facial structure better before I can get the lighting to do what I want it to do. :<

You should be more confident in your work. We all learn by trying things and making mistakes. It's important to keep moving forward, but you need to appreciate your strengths as well.

It's just, I've never been that good at coloring digitally, and it's always irked me, just, everything about it felt so weird and strange, and I've yet to find the groove where I'm really comfortable with it, and it's kind of frustrating. I'll keep on trying, though! ;v;

Sometimes I feel the same. It's just not the same as traditional... being able to feel things with your own hands. I haven't found what I'm looking for yet either but I'm still going with it. Even if your current style isn't quite what you want, you've definitely got something. C:

This...THIS. This is so gorgeous, man - I have no bloody clue what you're talking about. Even getting a sketch from you is a treat in and of itself because you're so talented and thoughtful and detailed goddangit. And this is utterly astounding. You've made my idiotic little boy into something awe-astounding. Just the atmosphere and emotion you were able to convey through the coloring, the shading, and even the nature grace of the pose...aaaahhh I don't even know what to say. D:
Don't apologize for this, for one. It's not a problem to be in limbo with one's work, but know fully that this is utterly beautiful. Thank you so much for the time and effort you've put into it - it shows and I freaking adore it.
