I'm dressing up as Chell for Tampa Bay Comic Con in a few weeks. How much would you say JUST the Jumpsuit is- you know, price wise-, and how long would it take to sew it?

Also, thank you for providing the pattern for the jumpsuit. It'll be a great help!

Just checking the price of the fabric I used, looks like about $10 per yard so using 4 yards plus the zippers and snaps and whatnot you could probably do the jumpsuit for less than $60.

I did all the sewing for the jumpsuit working full time over 2 or 3 days (if I can remember correctly, it's been a few years) but it'll of course depend on your sewing experience.

Is there any chance of getting a close-up picture of those leg braces? Me and my friends are adapting your design into full blown long fall boots (Hopefully ^^)

I can sort through and see if I have any higher rez images of them for you.
I wish I could just take close up pictures but they are currently housed at my parent's place in a different state.
But yeah, I'll see what I can come up with!

Ok, I have to apologize, I've replaced my computer semi-recently and can't seem to locate the original images on my old drive. Most of the pictures taken of the costume should be on line somewhere if you wanted to poke around, the photographer who took the pictures I posted was Eurobeat King and they were taken at Sakuracon 2008.

What's the overall price of everything in this tutorial?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lambda2441 In reply to TeamMinato [2012-12-29 01:49:28 +0000 UTC]

It's been a few years so I cant give precise numbers, but I would guess around $200?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TeamMinato In reply to Lambda2441 [2012-12-29 03:06:15 +0000 UTC]

wait wait, subtract the costs for the portal gun, my friend has one, so about $100ish?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lambda2441 In reply to TeamMinato [2013-01-12 05:34:07 +0000 UTC]

I think it would be doable for around that, you'd be better off tallying up the costs for yourself though, since some of it was from a recycling center so the pricing will vary.

I shined a flashlight through the jello to make it glow, that's where the blue and orange light comes from [link]

I have a question, though. do you have anything that can substitute for the skis? I live in Georgia and there aren't many skis to be found here XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lambda2441 In reply to xXAlicewolfXx [2012-03-10 20:15:19 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... It's hard to say. The way I picked them was basically walked around my local recycling center until I saw something roughly the right shape. Since the ends of the skis didn't curl out far enough I extended them with sheet metal and craft foam (layered together and glued) so it might be doable to make the whole thing with that method. The problem there would be finding sheet metal large enough and cutting it since craft stores usually just sell small sheets.
I'll think about it and let you know if I have any other ideas This is one of the trickier portions of the costume, I think I got pretty lucky finding the skis when I did.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you.
I have a couple more questions if that is alright..

How did you do the pockets and the white outlining?
I am sorry for all of these questions. You have been a big help and this is amazing.
I love your cosplay and I hope to make this once my schedule is clear to do so.

Lambda2441 In reply to BeheiBaker [2011-04-15 15:00:22 +0000 UTC]

The white trim is made with piping (this is the most descriptive picture I could find of what it is [link] ) the flat part gets sewn into the seams with the tube part sitting on the outside of the garment. You can get it at Joann Fabrics, it'll be with the blanket binding and other trims. the hardest part I think is getting it to look right on things like the patch pockets where there are no seams under them, you kind of have to finish them independently and then sew them on. Haha, I'm rambling now! Thanks, and definitely let me know if you have any other questions, I can also draw a sketch to show what I'm talking about if anything doesn't make sense.

BeheiBaker In reply to Lambda2441 [2011-04-16 01:32:27 +0000 UTC]

Thank you a lot. I understand how to do that now. i'm sorry for bugging you about all this.
The reason I have been asking all these questions,is the fact that Portal 2 will be coming out soon. I will be going with a friend, and we both agreed that I should be Chell and give out cake...or at least cupcakes..

If you could draw a picture that would be amazing.
you have been a really big help, thank you again.

What Material did you use for the jumpsuit?
also..how long did it take you to make?
I'm going to head out to buy the fabric sunday.
Thank you for all your help.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lambda2441 In reply to BeheiBaker [2011-04-17 08:39:11 +0000 UTC]

I used cotton duck, its basically like a really coarse canvas type material, I was thinking it was meant to be a bit like a prison jumpsuit so I went with something really stiff and heavy. I bought the material at Joann's but have not seen it in stores since then. The jumpsuit itself I think only took me one or two days but I spent some time after that wearing it down and ageing the fabric. I bought a brighter orange color than it looks like in pictures since it will dull down a bit when it gets aged.
You're welcome, glad to be able to help!
