I'm not entirely sure... but you could try and see how it works out.

tip, if you usually get it cracked and stuff, try paper clay. it's the same thing as model magic, but it hardens up so much, that you can use sandpaper to fix it. it's heavier, warning!

Hi! I've heard from many people that model magic doesn't work... How do you keep it from breaking?

Cryaotic1girl In reply to Gingerpelt101 [2015-07-28 12:21:51 +0000 UTC]
Some people use something (Can't remember the name, sorry) to harden them so they don't break.

No, actually. I made Aradia horns with Model Magic and they aren't really light (3 days with horns on a headband xD).Β

how long do they typically take to dry? I'll be using these for a few days at a con so also will they be durable enough?Β

My friend made his three days before and a crack appeared in the one. I waited two days and they were okay. I'd wait around a week or so before (The inside has to dry).

If you're putting them on a black headband, how do you get it to stay on? Do you glue it?
π: 0 β©: 1
Ambasu In reply to Icetalon11 [2013-11-02 16:42:36 +0000 UTC]
you might want to put a wire in the middle of the horns then attach the wire threw the head band then add some heavy duty glue. If you're ever seen Heroes of cosplay Heather does this with one of her and her friend's creations.

Lol! They actually came out pretty good except i didn't have time to dye my hair so i had to use the spray and it looked like my hair was a wig that just got tossed through a chicken coop or something -_-

No. Try and think of the horns like playdoh. If you close the lid it stays squishy and moldable, but if you leave it open it will dry out over time. Thats what you want to happen.

Me and my friends are getting together to do a cosplay and I'm trying to figure out how much clay I need to get to make all the horns. (1 Karkat, 1 Sollux, 1 Vriska, 1 gamzee, and maybe a Nepeta)... Is it possible to make all those with one thing of clay (I'm starting to think not)... If not how many do you recommend?

I usually get the bucket of Model Magic and from that I can make a good deal of horns but for just those, I'd suggest going to the Crayola section of your local craft store and they should have single packages [I usually get the white ones] and you could probably make those with two packages. You might have a little left over but you could use it to make something like the crab-watch or some of Vriska's dice or something!

Just a question, but what sort of glue is it to fill in any cracks? I have super glue, but it seems too liquified to fill it it. ;A;

Lambentworld In reply to HungaryOfHetalia [2013-02-25 23:52:37 +0000 UTC]
I use liquid super glue. It hardens as it enters the air pockets of the model magic and once it dries up [you can kind of push it gently together it together ad count to 60] you can sand over it and the thick paint covers up any imperfections.

Can you use Paper clay?
I can't seem to find any places near me which sells Model Magic D:

paper clay would probably work fine as long as you use a core, such as foam.

Sorry, I have a quick question: I've only used Model Magic once like five years ago so I'm not sure if maybe I did something wrong but
won't drying the horns on their sides like that flatten out the side its laying on? Or does it just stay in place?
Again, sorry.
π: 0 β©: 1
Lambentworld In reply to DeadRipper [2013-01-29 08:35:27 +0000 UTC]
It will if there's a lot of weight. I usually keep turning them over every other day so they don't flatten out.

Brilliant tutorial! I only have one question...
I once used Crayola Model Magic, just to mess around and make random things out of it, but when it had "dried", it was still a bit squishy and flimsy. It felt almost like Styrofoam. It was quite a long time ago so I do not remember how long I had actually waited for it to dry ^^" Is this the result you got? Or are they completely hardened/solid?
