Description WELP I tried to make a tutorial on crafting. I hope people understand my horrible English.

I also hope it helps a bit. If you have any questions, I'll be sure to answer them the best I can!

Part Two will come in a few days! Still waiting for them to dry.

I got 1 kilo of Crayola Model Magic. Is it gonna be enough to make a pair of Gamzee horns and a pair of Terezi horns? Thank you. :0)

If you make big horns, do they break easily? I just feel like they should be heavy and break real easily?
(I'm making Gamzee's horns.)

I'm extremely sorry if someone already asked this question, but; I have to make Karkat, Nepeta, Sollux, and Vriska horns. What size would you suggest? I don't know if I need a whole tub, or if I need more than a tub, or rather just to buy a certain amount of packets. Would you please help me? I don't want to have a lot of left overs, and I'd rather not have to go back and buy more clay ;-;

About how much Model Magic do you actually use to make the horns? I know how much you can buy, but not how much it would take to make a pair like in the tutorial.

i've found that that one 113 gram package should work for almost all troll kids (exceptions aradia/tavros), and also for ancestors with smaller horns ( i.e. sufferer/desciple). it also depends on if your planning on making a foil core

Is it better to use the air dry clay, like ~SaoKara 's using?
Or is it better to use Model Magic?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

SaoKara In reply to ??? [2012-05-02 00:43:27 +0000 UTC]

I'm using crayola air dry clay, no model magic whatsits or anything..... what if the barbs on the horns (because I used slip and score techniques to attach my barby things) are rough? The water I was using to help me smooth the clay out so there were no dimples in it made things really muddy and it kinda shows....

or will that all sand out?

For the large bucket I got from Micheal's was about 22$. They have individual packets that are about 3$ I believe so you don't have a lot left over.

can you use air dry clay with making the horns? or is that a bad idea to do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lambentworld In reply to BloodBurstRosso [2012-04-08 05:54:22 +0000 UTC]

I've heard mixed things on air dry clay. Model Magic is a slight form of it but the buckets that are large and heavy for me personally? I don't like using them. You can hallow them out, I suppose, with paper and just mold a thin layer over it but you have to be careful if they drop.

I guess experiment around!

couldn't you put them in the oven to harden faster?
or use a fan?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lambentworld In reply to Videogamer42 [2012-04-03 22:05:27 +0000 UTC]

By rushing air control with a fan, you risk the inside shrinking too quickly and that's how cracks form and split the model magic.

(oh my god you put the horns in a BUCKET. )

I'm planning out my attack on a Nepeta cosplay, and I stumbled upon this tutorial to sculp horns. This is so helpful!

I'm not one-hundred percent sure of my budget, but would it be cheaper to make the horns, or purchace some pre-made ones?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lambentworld In reply to kittyxkatz [2012-03-20 04:03:54 +0000 UTC]

It would be cheaper to buy the horns, but our orders are still closed right now. So if you need them before the later half of this year, then it'd be a better idea to make them yourself.

I have a quick question. How heavy are the horns? Does the headband ever slip because of the weight?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AcotasWolf In reply to Dragonheart101 [2012-04-11 01:15:20 +0000 UTC]

I work with model magic, so hopefully I can help. Model magic is very light especially when its dry. I'm not sure about some of the bigger horns, but I doubt they would be very heavy and almost definitely not heavy enough to cause the band to slip. One of those large buckets ( ) Is only four pounds when the model magic is still wet.

Did you put the lid back on the bucket? Or did you just leave it lopsided like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Lambentworld In reply to TheJuggernaut1999 [2012-03-06 01:17:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I usually try to restrict air flow in to the bucket by leaving the hood a crack open.

I had a question about smoothing out seams..Are you able to explain how to do it in anyway? I find that everytime i try to smooth the seams out it just squishes the model magic all over and creates that texture as if ive stretched it out. And the seams will remain.
