Uh if that's the case then it didn't dry. Model magic will dry and solidify to a sturdy structure over time as the model magic shrinks in on itself and fills its airpockets.

Do you put the lid on while you let it dry? I ask because that's what I'm doing with mine and they're drying rather slowly...

Lambentworld In reply to Fluffy-Moose [2012-11-25 05:45:51 +0000 UTC]
Sadly that's the process that's needed. I crack my lid open just a bit to let a small bit of air flow in.
If you let model magic dry too fast, that causes breaking and cracks because it's shrinking in on itself too quickly.

If you cover the horns completely in a container, like if you put a top on it, would that be a problem?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lambentworld In reply to daniD223 [2012-11-17 06:36:29 +0000 UTC]
No but it would take longer for them to dry without a constant air flow. That's how model magic dries because it's essentially an air dry clay.

so in the process of my horns drying I've found 1 or two long thin cracks. should I fill those with super glue now? so that I can sand it away when its all dry?

Lambentworld In reply to Glass-Spork [2012-08-12 19:16:40 +0000 UTC]
Yes, filling them early on helps prevention of cracks from spreading.

I'm making a pair of Gamzee horns right now, and this tutorial looks great. I was wondering though, for the taller horns like Gamzee's, would you recommend using some kind of base like a wire and foil or something, or is the model magic stable/sturdy enough?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lambentworld In reply to Setsujou [2012-07-27 00:48:05 +0000 UTC]
Usually with the bigger ones like gamzee, as long as you're careful you should be okay. With super glue and model magic, it's actually a nice mix. The super glue is a liquid and the model magic has air pockets inside of it, which helps make it light weight. Over time the model magic shrinks on itself to close up those air pockets. If you have super glue in the base, it forms a more solid base than just the air and model magic. I just usually continue to add super glue now and then to make sure it stays sturdy against the headband.

I have a question, I'm making Terezi horns and I just wanted to know how to get the basic shape, because I already started on them using aluminum foil for the base and well they look funny.
