Description
Game is currently in Beta, which means that I'm the only person who's tested it so far. Once ten people have played and have given the all clear, I'll remove the beta from the title. When you've played, or are playing, please let me know what you've found so I can count down. Don't just go whatever and don't say anything. I need to know so I can fix the issue. I want to get back to working on this soon.Walkthrough: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQLcev…

I'm currently downloading the demo for the live stream, exactly at 2:00 PM (I live in the eastern part of America) and hoping that whatever is at the couch doesn't unplug the router by accident (it's up on a shelf above a couch by the way along with a modem router... but don't worry, it's going to be taped), because I'm going to be at that same couch. Also, if I am unable to attract attention, then... yeah. But I will be doing the stream still.

I'm not going to lie, after watching your walk through, I'm extremely pysched for this game. The music, the characters, everything down to the cute little walking animation Gilbert has and the whimsical story line, I really can't wait until you finish this. You put a serious amount of work into this game, and it's obvious while checking it out. Also, Gilbert is just too adorable!

Thanks for watching my walkthrough. I took out most of my summer to work on this project. The music was difficult to search for, hence it's hard to find good quality royalty free music these days. Almost of the music is from Japanese royalty free sites. Couldn't find many sites in English with good music. The art takes me the longest, but it's worth it in the end. I'm excited to finish this. It's like retelling my story with more content.

I wish the best of luck for you. Seriously. Also, wow, you tracked down music from Japan? Not going to lie, but I'm imagining it took you a while to find your royalty free music, but it's real quality. I mean it sounds amazing and goes well with the atmosphere! Also, you're welcome! I really enjoyed it!

I'm gonna need it because making games takes up a lot of time, especially something of this scale. I just can't stay simple when I know it's gonna be the only game I'm gonna ever do. It didn't take that long, actually. I knew some of them from previous Horror games made in RPG Maker. I didn't know any good royalty free English musicians, so I turned to those sites first. I can't believe that one had actual orchestrated music. I really like the orchestrated music and downloaded a lot of it for the game. The music does really does make a difference.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
IzzyMarrie In reply to Lamentine [2016-11-09 19:32:30 +0000 UTC]
It really does; it helps build atmosphere. And yes, I agree, orchestrated music on a royalty free website is really cool. It's good you didn't have to spend too much time searching, and to be honest, I haven't heard of any games using the same music as you, and so you definitely have a better chance at standing out concerning the sound track. Also, have you ever considered opening up a patron for your work? That way, things like working don't have to take up as much of your time? The only down-side would be putting yourself on a time constraint, which some people don't handle well. I constantly put myself on a schedule, and I regret it almost every time, but then with other people, it works out great for them. I think maybe doing a little more advertising work, asking people who like your game to help share it to build up hype might actually help make people more inclined to donate. I already know that when I have more time, I'll be making a journal featuring your game. I know I don't have a lot of active watchers, but maybe I can get a person or two interested. That and maybe eventually putting up a trailer for the game that's under 2 minutes, something quick to grab people's attention, might get some more people interested. Maybe when you're finished, part of your greatest advertisement could be asking a more popular game player on youtube if they might play the game, possibly asking several in hopes one might respond.

Lamentine In reply to IzzyMarrie [2016-11-10 04:17:14 +0000 UTC]
Sorry for the late reply. Some of the soundtracks were used before. It shouldn't matter where it's used, since it's all royalty free. It doesn't belong to the game, it's free for everyone to use. I know I'll get 'this is from such and such' game even though it wasn't made for that track to begin with. But that's okay. It happens. There's actually already a patreon open. I have it on my front page and on ever single non-Undertale related work I have. I don't actually have enough content to put up a trailer. I don't plan on putting up a trailer until the game's full release. I really hope Mark or ManlyBadassHero picks it up. They seem to be the big RPG Maker game players.
Also, someone's already going to play it, too. ^_^
Hows this for YouTube?? Pls read?Okay so my current plan I wanna do three things for you guys on my youtube.
One being the tutorials because everyones always asking for some. So thats one video that differs on the week. So a seedpaint/or tutorial.
Another video i wanna do is a weekly Sim Series but using the housemates from IEPFB. So it would be a Creepypasta Sims "let's play"
My last video is a let's play of CarillonNightmares currently in-development horror RPG.
So three videos a week, one art related, one CP sims related and the last the horror RPG.
Does this sound like a good start??

That's perfectly okay! Lol I sometimes have a bit of trouble getting back to people myself.
You're right, it doesn't matter where the songs were used before, but the only reason I mentioned it was because that I haven't heard them from anything that's well known (or at least, some of the more popular games.. but maybe I'm missing some). So even though any number of various games could be using the music you've chosen, the reason why I mentioned this was because as far as I know, there aren't that many and so that makes it a little cooler in my opinion. Even though you are using free music that anyone can use, it's probably music that isn't as well known. I don't know, I just thought that was cool lol
I've actually never even noticed you mentioning your patreon before! Wow, that shows how much I pay attention lol
Ah, gotcha. Makes sense that you'd want to wait until you're finished before you make a trailer. Also, Markiplier and ManlyBadassHero are some good choices. Another good choice, in my opinion, would be Jacksepticeye or DAGames, although, you might consider Someordinarygamer as well. I know that if Markiplier chose to play your game, you'd definitely get a lot of feedback not just from other people, but from him as well. He seems like he's really good at that while he's playing games, giving compliments.

There's actually some that I'm 100% planning on using like 'Old Doll' that was used in Ib. It's such a music box, that I just couldn't leave it out. It's by the same site that does the background music in the orphanage and the clock's music box. I know that a lot of the music from Ib is well known, but it's still usable. I don't hear it in any other games, even though they can and should. Also, the theme that plays during Ceristrix is actually a theme from another character in a popular Horror RPG called Alice Mare. I couldn't think of any other kind of theme that would fit a clockwork character any better though.
I always have it up there. I have supporters, but I'm keeping it there, regardless.
They probably get flooded so much, that they can't respond do anything. It usually takes constant messages for the same game for them to play something. xD

IzzyMarrie In reply to Lamentine [2016-11-14 04:50:00 +0000 UTC]
That's a good one to choose. Also, I've never heard of Alice Mare. Now I want to check it out! Also, I don't know, even though I'm perfectly fine with multiple games using the same music, I still stick by with it being just a little more special when some of the songs being used aren't as well known, but either way, again, I do have to say great choice on 'Old Doll'. I personally love music box instrumentals, and that one is really pretty.
Of course, I understand that. When more people find out about you, it makes sense to have it up so your new fans can know about it.
Oh my gosh, yeah, I can imagine that X'D

I do like the Old Doll music box. The majority of the music from the website is extremely well done. I had to pick and choose, but I ended up downloading a lot from there. There has to be at least 50 songs in the mix now, which is more than enough for the game's length.

Hooo kay that last stretch had me good!
Here are my general observations over a two hour (I think) play session
In the beginning when the game is introducing Gilbert,(After Mr. Hayward brings him in) i didn't have enough time to read all the text. Either, allocate more time to read it, or just let the player continue when he feels like it.
As I went around, i noticed that, the game kinda slowed down in the Kitchen. Gilbert didn't move as smoothly as he would elsewhere. And in the dining hall where the kid runs around and around, i noticed that if i'm up by the fireplace and he moves there, if I move at the same time, i pass through him.
I ended up spending quite a bit of time trying to figure out what to do honestly. I had talked to the kids over and over, tried to get the one in the dining room to leave, and eventually had to look at the walkthrough. Iiit's a lot of trial and error (Which isn't a bad thing just... there was a lot.) I didn't know one of the kids would like a burnt muffin.
For the marbles thing... It wasn't that obvious that there were marbles on the chair. I had checked around that dining table a lot but not in that one specific place. perhaps a slight hint would help towards it, like maybe it's a bit more inwards or there's a slight glint.
Overall, it's a pretty good demo! Especially the panic parts. Just... A lot of trial and error. Maybe add few more subtle hints and feedback from Gilbert.
Also Damn these kids like to use the word Bastard!
Also those buttercups. I swear if that's a reference, nice heheh
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lamentine In reply to Lunar-Imagination [2016-10-30 14:37:49 +0000 UTC]
I was wondering when someone would notice the pot of buttercups. xD
Where all the kids make fun of him? The problem was that the song was so short, I had to fit all the text in to match the song, so I had to lower the time length to where people had a chance to read. The problem is that I read pretty fast and I thought there was enough time. ><
Yeah, you're supposed to be able to pass through him there. It's not actually an error. That's actually near a spot where there's another event in the way and I had to program for him to pass through in order for him to run around in circles. The kitchen has a ton of events going on it, so I'm not surprised. It might be because of the floor shine, too.
At least it's not the death version of trial and error. Some of the puzzles were easy and a few of them were hard. I thought it was a gradual change, introducing the players to how difficult some of the riddles/puzzles will get in the future. *Correct me if I'm wrong, I think one of the butterflies said they wanted to dump it on someone else.
There was a slight hint towards it. The kid did say 'eight reds,' so it's assumed that there is something around with eight reds. It would just involve checking all of the chairs instead of just one.
I thought the panic parts were pretty easy compared to some other games. You couldn't even die in the first one (it was mostly about massive decisions.) The second one was just a bit of a surprise the first time. I thought I made it pretty easy.
I wonder where they learned it from. *glares at Hugh*

Hahah! Ye
Aaah. I see. I had to watch the intro twice to fully get everything. The main thing was when it was big blocks of text that took up the whole text box.
Ah. Heh, neat way to get around it.
There is a whole lot going on in there!
Yeah thank goodness. And yeah one of the butterflies did say she wanted to dump the burnt muffin on someone. Come to think of it that's the only kid that says anything rude at the time to Gilbert so it makes sense.
...I did not connect that! Wow! I should really pay attention to the colour of text.
Oh no I meant that those panic parts were great! Yeah they were easy but pretty great! Got me good i'll tell ya that!
Hahha! Huuuugh why are you teaching these words to the kids!

Well, I'm always wondering about the difficulty anyways. I don't want to make this game an annoyance. That's why there's so little places to die in the earlier stages. Of course there's going to be a difficulty curve, but I didn't want to make the first part too difficult. I think the problem is that this games' puzzles are 'read in between the lines' sorta thing and you have to pay attention really closely.
The chases are easy for now.

Hi!, so here is my review of the game:
General review:
-The art is impressive, i really like it,
-Sound is almost perfect, i really like the ambience but some voices sound out of place like for example, the kids that are talking about Hugh, when they stop talking they make some kind of laugh but it doesnt stand with the same quality as the other sounds so it doesnt fit really well
-Story, well i have to say it, it's pretty good, i didnt even knew there was a creepy pasta about this before playing it for the first time and i must say it's pretty interesting, i really like it,
-Controlls are pretty good, not much to say here, they are pretty standard and thats fine
Bugs:
-Well... after doing the muffin quest, the jacks quest and finally the marbles quest (this one was really hard), when you talk with the boy that is trying to stop the arguing of the other two boys he will ask you if you know a way to stop the arguing and then you will step back everything normal until you speak with him from the horse side, you'll be stuck and the only way to escape is to restart the game.
-Another one is that the candelabrum that is in the room with the blue curtains clips through your head.
-When you try to enter a door by the any side that is not the center of it, you wont be able to enter even if you try to go enter by the middle, unless you step back and try again by the middle.
Tips:
-Some parts of the game were really hard to figure out, for example the marble quest, i couldnt find the marbles that were under the table until i saw the gameplay (that really kills the inmersion, i was going forth and forward for about 50 minutes before finally getting tired and came back here for the walkthrough), maybe using some kind of tips system would help players to figure out what to do in these cases, for example a timer that runs after starting a new quest and when it's done, Honey and Bell helps you figure out what to do, another example that need this kind of system or something like that is when you talk have to talk with the kid that is looking at the window, the one that won't even look at you (he isnt that noticeable, maybe a change of color or a better illumination could fix this or maybe just change his position to be right in front of the window, that will make it more visible), after talking to him i didnt even knew what to do after that so i had to see the walkthrough again to get on track... it didnt tought about talking to the kids that mentioned Hughs again, because honestly i had speak with them enought times and it never changed so i wasnt expecting that talking to that kid would change anything, i tought it had something to do with the dialogue change of the kid that is trying to stop the arguing of the other two.
-I couldnt really notice the ants...
-Maybe try to make the protagonist to be more... expressive with his ideas, for example when you are stuck in that world he says: yeah i'll try that, but i didnt knew what he meant so i went all around the place pressing the action button Z until finally did what i had to do
Misc problems:
-Some dialogue just goes by withouth letting you read it, for example, when the game takes controll of the dialogue in the start, the kid in the window that you have to listen, etc.
It's a pretty good game i hope you continue it, if i didnt make my self clear in anything or you need some pictures dont doubt in asking me, i'll try to answer as quickly as possible

- I left creepypasta more than half a year ago and changed everything to its own Horror universe. I thought I removed all evidence of it being a creepypasta story. Whoops!
- You can actually find the sites for the music in the readme file if you want them. Hmix is the best imo.
- The hint in the marble quest was the red number 8. (I actually thought the clock puzzle was harder than that.)
- They do ask for gossip on Hugh, so when you learn the gossip from overhearing the kid talking to himself, that should be a clue
- The ants were red on black.
- If he was expressive you would've known to go straight to the window. I wanted people to explore the area a bit.
- At least none of the glitches were too bad. I've seen some funny things happen in RPG Maker games.
I'm going to have to release another updated version of the game then because game breaking bugs are a big no-no in my book.
I'm going to update:
- Removing the awkward laughter from the kids
- I already knew about the chandelier clipping and have edited that since
- added some extra red dialog "\c[18]eight reds, \c[8]but I only see five. Can you check once more for the rest of the \c[18]eight reds please?"
- I honestly don't know why the doors do that. I have it set to player touch while facing the direction of the door when you hit the event. I've had this happen in other games and not just mine. Oh well, that's RPG Maker for you. There's only so much it does and a lot more that it derps. This is why we can't have nice things.
And, yes, the game is continuing. Hopefully it'll be a bit simpler from here on out. The first level was a mix of simple and one difficult puzzle to get a feel of how it was going to go. I think the more people see colored numbers, the easier they'll figure out what's going on.

- I left creepypasta more than half a year ago and changed everything to its own Horror universe. I thought I removed all evidence of it being a creepypasta story. Whoops!
oh, i found the creepy pasta when i was trying to find this post again, i was looking by the name of the game 'Patches the Rabbit' and then i found the creepypasta, so it isnt going to be the same as the creepypasta?
- You can actually find the sites for the music in the readme file if you want them. Hmix is the best imo.
Thank you, just what i needed
The hint in the marble quest was the red number 8. (I actually thought the clock puzzle was harder than that.)
So that's what it meant... well now that i think about it, it's pretty obvious, the table, a clock, eight... it makes sense, i'm not that good with this kind of games
They do ask for gossip on Hugh, so when you learn the gossip from overhearing the kid talking to himself, that should be a clue
Oh i knew that but like i said before some dialogue just goes by withouth letting you read it, that was one of those, the kid in the window said what he had to say but i couldnt read it fast enough, im not fast reading in english
(Tested it again, and yes it's a bit quick)
-The ants were red on black.
Oh but they are a bit overshadowed by the HUD, maybe changing its opacity to make it more transparent will help (i know that if you walk towards the HUD it becomes transparent, but i didnt mean you have to use alway that transparency, maybe a softer transparency to see all the room easier).
If he was expressive you would've known to go straight to the window. I wanted people to explore the area a bit.
Well it really worked, but there are parts for example the room with the horse, when you say 'I need them out of this room to xxxx' (i dont remember how i got this dialogue to show up), i didnt knew what he meant with xxxx.
At least none of the glitches were too bad. I've seen some funny things happen in RPG Maker games.
You were pretty good removing all the common problems, that's awesome
Removing the awkward laughter from the kids
Maybe it just needs a change
added some extra red dialog "\c[18]eight reds, \c[8]but I only see five. Can you check once more for the rest of the \c[18]eight reds please?"
Great idea!
I honestly don't know why the doors do that
I found a door that works almost perfect, the door that leads to the kitchen from north to south / south to north, it's a three blocks wide door that you can enter by any of the sides, maybe you should try to see why that one works (it still has a part of the bug, after you exit from any of the sides and try to reenter directly after exiting, it wont let you)
if you need something i'll be around here for a while

- I don't want it to be creepypasta anymore for personal reasons. The fandom's just too irresponsible for something of this genre. As far as I'm concerned, it's not anymore, and hopefully as it progresses, no one thinks so too. It's a Horror tale now.
- I'm gonna have to make those word puzzles easier (is that what you'd call them??). I don't want these kind of frustrations to keep happening. There's always a word hint repeated during a request.
- I guess I'm just so used to reading that I read very quickly. I thought an extra second was enough to read the dialog. Guess it's not friendly towards non-native English speakers. Or people who read slower in general.
- The script I'm using for the HUD doesn't fade when you get close. I'm not a programmer, so there's not much I can do about that.
- I was hoping the fire would be a clue that you needed to put it out. It's a common puzzle in RPG Games. I've seen it happen in a few Horror RPGs before too where the character would put out a fire to get something. The main character in this story (and in the original) doesn't have a lot of sense, so he does some weird things. It wouldn't really be a puzzle if he up and said where he wanted to go.
- If I find another sound to replace the multiple giggles, I'll use it, but that was the only one I could find on the sites I was using. Not a big deal. Doesn't really impact the game too much if the laughs are removed.
- Weird. All the doors were made exactly the same. Don't know what's up with Ace, but it's just something it likes to do. ><

-For reference i may refer to them as word puzzles if you wish
-Oh now i get the kind of puzzle you are trying to achieve, well... i dont play a lot of these games so im not really used to that kind of puzzle, I need more practice
-The HUD indeed fades when you get too close, you can see this behaviour in the blue courtains room, well it isnt really a problem when you explore a bit because the HUD moves with you
-The fire one was logic i knew i had to do something with the fire, but after spending some time in the kitchen (before leading the kids out of the playing room when i was looking for food) i thought i was wrong

- The hud doesn't actually fade, it's just me turning off the hud so people can see the curtains. So, I guess it could look like that.
- Nope, it was the washbasin, but it wouldn't be logical for a kid to be able to pick up all the water. Fun fact: the bucket came from where you think it came from.
