I find it interesting how he kind of looks like Anubis, wich is the god of afterlife. But... hey! Who cares?
It is an elegant creature indeed, it's tail is graceful, also those "square looking" marks on him reminds of clockgears, wich makes sense since he appears only when a new era begins.
