Lara-Blue — The Daffodils Scene (Tim Burton's Big Fish)

The theme for this contest was "music inspiration" and as soon as I read it, I knew I would choose "Everyday" by Buddy Holly, which is the soundtrack for one of my all-time favourite film: Tim Burton's Big Fish (Everyone has watched it, right? Haven't you watched it? Go watch it then, NOW! You don't know what you're missing )

I watched it for the millionth time a couple of days before the contest started and that song was still stuck on my mind. This soundtrack is so connected to the film for me that every time I hear it I just can't help but thinking about daffodils and a particular scene  from “Big Fish”, that’s why I chose to portray it.
Moreover, the song makes me think about a fairy-tale-like scenario, a dreamy, colourful atmosphere, and I wanted to recreate that as well.

Ah! I almost forgot, I got myself a graphic board for Christmas (yay!) and this is the first time I use one, I’m still trying to figure out how it works…

I haven't watched it, but the picture is very beautiful and evocative of the distance in love even when you're right there.

We have the movie!  It's really cool.  I loved the fantasy elements and how they turned out to be kind of true in the end.  I had a real problem with the son who seemed like a jerk most of the time but I also understood how his father could be an embarrassment.  Still, he was dying. A little respect, yo.  The man that played the old father was outstanding.


Good luck with the contest.  I really like your fantasy storybook illustration!  It's a cool style.  That song is awesome, isn't it.

Yeah the movie is really, REALLY cool  
Well I didn’t see the son as a jerk, well, it’s true that he wasn’t the nicest character but guess how frustrating it must have been to have a father who’s so charming that even the very day of your wedding all the attention was focused on him. Moreover, the son has been listening to the same stories year after year so I could quite see how he got sick of them, he just wanted the truth and all that his father could give him were just stories… even though they were amazing stories!
Yeah I think that both young and old Edward Bloom were amazing!    (I have to admit I have a crush on  Ewan McGregor , aka the young Edward  )

Yeah, I totally see your point. I just remember him when his father was dying and he was just being so difficult, but I understood why it would be hard for him too.  He wanted to know his da and his da always told him stories and now that he's dying he wants his da to be "real."  It's hard enough to not know your father, let alone deal with him dying also.  So, yeah, I can see his frustration.  Still, I remember the look on his dying father's face after one of the son's episodes.  It broke my heart. I would never want to see that look on me da's face as he lay dying and I was being difficult and aloof.  The son's wife was really nice though.  I really liked her.


Ewan rules!  I loved him in Moulin Rouge.
