Description My english project, a portrait of Lady Macbeth. PLEASE tell me waht you think, I really want 100% on this! I like the figure herself and the colours, but I don't much like the background or the composition.

Any ideas on how to improve the composition? Please??

I think this is amazing! Especially the shadow. Really cool concept and great execution! I don't know what you could change, sorry, but I really think it's great the way it is!

WOW
The only thing I would suggest is make the red stronger in the shadow and the actual figure of Lady M lighter - you know because she comes across as a nice lady but she ain't. If you're going for symbolism.

Ok, thanks, yeah, I am going for the symbolism

Hmm...as far as composition goes, I think the right side might be just a little busy, with the door, the window, and Lady M sort of off to the right, giving it more weight. That gives it kind of a lopsided effect. But honestly, I had to sit and stare for a bit to find that. You did a great job!

Believe me or not, but I suspected it was Lady MacBeth before I read the title. The blood on the shadow's hand is what made me suspect it. You did amazing! The woman, her expression, even her hands are wonderful. The background is good, and it still compliments the focal point. Great Job!!!

I really like, but I think that the lighting and shadowes look a little... off... APART from the creepy-ness.

The lights not coming from the right place.

I do know what you mean, a couple other people have mentioned the lighting source thing. I also think the point perspective is a bit off, escpecially around the stones on the floor... but I'm probably too lazy to fix it .

It really reminds me of the Yellow Wallpaper story 9which is a good thing btw!!), which is incidentally all about a woman who goes insane... You really drew what I thought this scene may look like and you captured the insanity and mood really well. You really deserve 100% in your project! ^^

I really like the composition. The thing that bugs me is your lighting and the hands. Her right one is either two big or her left is too small. I know it's exaggerated, but it just looks a little awkward. The way that you did your lighting suggests that there is one strong light source. However, the shadows don't line up with that light source. The whole right side of her face should be in shadow. Her left arm should be stronger light wise as well as the dress. A few darker shadows and reflected light would help this a lot. Otherwise, I love the pose, I love the concept, and frankly, her dress and boots are awesome, too. There should also be a little more light on her left boot, I think, just on the tip. Anyway, well done! I would also consider darkening the background a little bit to add more contrast. Still, you really did a fantastic job!

ok, thanks so much for the input.

Yeah, I think there might be something wrong with that one hand. I used a reference picture, but then I changed the pose a fair bit, so it doesn't really click any more. I'll take another look at it.

Thanks again!

Really interesting foreshortening with the figure's right hand.

This is a very successful piece.

I recommend backgrounds more often, if not backgrounds, then find other creative methods of activating the space.

It's really important to activate the negative space. Are you acquainted with art vocabulary? Either positive/negative space or figure/ground relationship.
