The Methuselah class Cruiser is a small light cruiser used by the Federation before the First Bugs War. Considered by many to be the Terran's first proper dedicated warship, the type had good armor protection and firepower compared to other 1st generation warships of Terran origins at the time. The class was designed 5 years right before humanity's first conflict against an alien race broke out, by the time of the Battle of Pluto, around 320 ships of the type had entered service.

As the Bugs War expanded into extrasolar scale, the Methuselah class cruisers continued to be used in varying degrees, from troop transports, to void combat against the much larger space-faring Transport Bugs. The most notable ship of the class is the TFS Valley Forge, known for ferrying the famous seasoned veteran Roughnecks Platoon throughout the war until it was decommissioned at the Federation's Fleet HQ in Sanctuary.

By the time of the Second Bugs War, the Methuselah class had been largely superseded by the larger and better armored Athena class Heavy Cruiser in frontline combat role and Alesia class Destroyer Leaders in Fleet Escort role, however, the types still remained in service on the second-line duties. Due to the simplicity of the design, the Methuselah were built in large numbers and was one of the Federation's most prolific ships of the Bugs Wars era, with more than 20,000 ships built. However at the onset of the 3rd Bugs War, the ship had been regarded as obsolete and many were quickly decomissioned right after the war was over in 2338AD/2666 GS. By this time, their classification had been downgraded from Light Cruiser to Destroyer due to the technological advancements in shipbuilding.

After their decommission, the Terran Federation sold many of these surplus demilitarized ships to civillian organizations and other aliens, from the Krogan Warlords in the Terminus to the Federation's Protectorate that was the Quarian Conclave's Patrol Fleet and Heavy Fleet as well as many other private military corporations like Elanus Risk Control Services, Blue Suns, etc etc. Due to their sizeable numbers, many of these ships today can be seen flying around in different flags, as the Federation's ones had largely either been preserved as museum ships or used as target ships.

I feel like the two turrets on the back would have very limited firing arcs due to obstructions.

kind of, my idea is that they are meant to cover the rear arcs of the ship instead
