A friend came over today. She gave me a Japanese lesson, then I cooked lunch for her, which was omg so good. Afterward, we sat down and drew. I was doing a bunch of One Piece stuff, because she was doing One Piece, but after I realized I was totally not in a one piece calibration today, I whipped out my new bible (Death Note), and drew L. Yes, it was done with reference. There's NO WAY I could have done this without any form of reference, because it's SO INCREDIBLY DIFFERENT. It's like... wow... this is the farthest from traditional anime style I've ever drawn, and it came rather easily. I really enjoyed drawing this. I intend to draw more

yes the DN style is soooooooo weird and different to emulate! D: (takes forever...to get it mildly decent XD) lol try drawing Raito's hair...! Now THAT's a challenge!

His right shoulder is looks unnaturally small compared to his left, but other than that, this is really good! His face, his eyes, his neck, and his hair all look perfect (I love his expression!), and the folds and shades of his clothes are very well done. I think this is one of your best works yet, Laura! :3
Hah, the "L" in the background's showing through his clothes. That's funny yet neat at the same time.

ac tually (sorry for all the comments lol) I've decided to take the watermark down. I think it should be obvious as to what's behind him. I dont expenct many non Death Note people to click this image anyway... and even if they do, I believe the title would give it away lol

Well, I guess if you could fit his legs and feet in there, I might be able to see how his shoulder's positioned. It just looks awkward all by its lonesome. D:

remarkably, that's really how it is in the shot... it's jsut that he's hunched over and has a weird look, but if I were to draw the entire legs, you'd be able to see it a bit more..... it's just that because I couldnt really work in the legs (this drawing takes up the whole 8 x 11 page), it kinda got a little disfigured for me. I know there are a few flaws in it, but ehhhh : )
I purposely showed the L through his clothes. I wanted it overlaying him actually. you can't see the L or know it's an L (if you are not educated in the manga I mean) without seeing through his clothes. There are actually two Ls there... One behind him, and one overlaying him, though I erased teh overlaying of the face, because it took away from the pic and looked weird.
