Derp! It's Hikaru no Go!Image is an homage to Takeshi Obata, and a variation of Obata's opening page for Chapter 173 [link] , which occurs in the manga after the anime had already ended.
I was going to make a comic from this, but I don't have the time, so I'll just give away the idea behind this : )
Basically, Hikaru and Akira are playing Go, then Sai shows up behind Hikaru, taking him by surprise. Sai goes on about how he brought a souvenir back from the Shinigami world for Hikaru, and drops a Death Note in his hands. Hikaru says oh yay, I needed that! I wanted to record this game! So he immediately picks up a pen and starts writing Akira Touya's name.
Good luck, Hikaru! I get the fuzzy warm feeling inside that you're going to win this match!

Reading it by the way is ten million times faster than watching the anime XD So you'll probably finish it in like, a day. The same thing happened with me and Death Note. It's the one other manga I plowed through in one day, unable to stop XD

I wish I could assume that, but Yu-Gi-Oh came 2 years before Hikaru no Go XD I didn't sense any Yu-Gi-Oh in the storytelling or games of Hikaru no Go, though. I never even thought to compare them.
In all honesty, before I knew what HnG was about, I thought it was a sports manga. I've always seen it paired alongside Prince of Tennis, so I assumed the HnG was a manga about soccer. Figure that one out. I was surprised to find out they made a manga about Go. I always assumed that Go was similar to Othello. I'm one of those awful people who doesn't understand the difference very much, which makes me wish I understood Go better. After watching the anime and reading the manga, I still have no idea how to efficiently play that game.
I'm wondering if they have a manga about chess, though. Not shougi, but chess. Hey, they had one about American football, so I can only guess that if there isn't one now, then there may be in the future. I do want to read that one for sure. One day, one day.

Orly? Then HnG copied Yu-Gi-Oh with the whole "split personality that's the ghost of a gaming prodigy" thing. They even copied the main character having bleach-blond bangs and dark hair everywhere else.

Well.... he doesn't really have a split personality. I guess I didn't think Yu-Gi-Oh because Sai never actually takes over Hikaru's body. It's more like Hikaru became schitzophrenic by seeing something that other people couldn't see, and hearing voices he didn't see, and not to be confused with split-personality disorder. And yeah, I guess I didn't think too much about the bleach-blond bangs with Yu-Gi-Oh. I guess coming from someone who has never seen even a single episode of Yu-Gi-Oh, my mind was untainted by it. I didn't ever associate anything with it. But coming from someone who knows Yu-Gi-Oh, I can see where you make that connection : )

Besides, I don't think Touya would even die to tell the truth. His father survived his heart attack, and I'm sure it runs in the blood. XD
