Description
Homework assignment for class. I've been really busy lately, since starting school here... Haven't had time for any fan art D: I should have some free time on weekends though. This last weekend I was out of town visiting my grandpa. It was there, I made the template for this animation, and just this morning, actually sat down to animate it. The color is just icing to the cake. lol, I went waaay above and beyond the homework exercise expectations. XD;;;Related content

the key to doing a leaf is to make it fall faster by doing very long intervals between the leaf's fall, and then doing a LOT of drawings of the leaf when it slows down, and then during its next whoosh, you do large intervals between the leafs fall, with only a few drawings, and then when it slows, you do tons of drawings of it. Just remember, the slower it is, the more drawings you end up doing of it, to show it being slower. You end up doing a LOT of tweening.

hi is this purely done by Flash? could you give some tips on how to achieve such animation? your animation is really cool!

the trick to doing this animation was ease-in ease-out. You do lots and lots of frames for when it slows down/turns, and very few frames for the parts when it zips down.

Ah yes. The leaf drop. Tee hee, I remember doing that for class way back when. x3 I like the creative background! But for contructing critisim purposes, I think the falling of the leaf may be a bit too even/flow-y. It should be a little more sparadic in speed while it's falling. Haha, hope that helps! And good luck.

wow, this is so smooth. how did you get the clouds to keep looping even after the leaf fell?

The way you drew the trees is really cute and I like the way the leaf flutters down.
A simple critique comes to mind while watching it loop. It might have looked better if you had the leaf get blown off screen and let the clouds finish passing by so it would loop properly, it would have made for a smoother transition.

I actually never meant for this to be a flash loop. we were supposed to do an animation of a leaf falling and landing. I'm the only person in the class who actually drew and colored an entire little scene. everyone else literally drew a single leaf against a white background, in pencil, and filmed it on one of those little pencil tester lunchboxes. lol. My teacher told us we could use any medium we wanted, even computer if we wanted. My entire first year program doesn't allow the use of computers, so I jumped on that opportunity. I really wanted to try out my new tablet : P
Hehe, there's lots I could do to improve this, but this wasn't really meant for posting in a loop. To tell the truth, since it's a homework assignment at USC grad school, they technically own the copyright to everything I draw there, so I don't know if they own the copyright to this too. I may one day feel compelled to take it down. I could argue that this one is mine though, since I mae it 100% on my own laptop with my own equipment, and didn't use any of their technology to create it. But eh.... too much info haha XD;;; Yeah, if I wanted it to loop it'd look nice fluttering off, but then I'd never get a chance to show it landing : P

It's wonderfully done, I like the coloring, my only beef with it is that it ends with the clouds not finishing their path so when it keeps repeating it ruins the flow. Other than that, great job I am sure you will get a great grade

I give you major Kudos for doing such a good job on this miss "2D ANIMATION IS EVIL."
ahem, It flows really well and the colors really make it pop. I think you'll do just fine doing 2D even though I know you'd rather do 3D.
Oh and YAY for being an over achiever!

Not bad, but with the clouds moving that fast, the trees in the background would probably be blowing a bit as well. I mean, it's a nice touch, but having wind in there, then not applying it to the whole environment is kind of strange.

XD yeah, good call. I actually kinda went overboard with this, and overachieved on the assignment. Most students havent even drawn a ground plane for it XDDDD But thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely do blowing trees if I ever include a falling leaf in an official animation <3

Actually, the fact the clouds are moving quickly doesn't necessarily mean there has to be wind at the level of the trees - air currents are such that there can be multiple layers of different airspeeds and even directions as you climb higher into the sky. I agree, though, that a small amount of tree movement would only add to the effectiveness of the piece. Very nice job, overall.
