Description
Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 30"Status: Available
Oh, boy, do I know Kamloops in winter. Also in summer, fall, and spring, but winter seems to be the longest-lasting season.
This one is based on Northlock's lovely photo . I exaggerated a LOT as you can tell, fluorescently so. I wanted to go way over the edge with color and contrast it with the smooth, cold slopes. It reminds me of the Kamloops of my childhood, when the winters were snowier and more Wonderlandy. Or possibly the late 80s, when things in general were just a lot more neon.
You know what I'm talking about, right? Good heavens, was I the only one who accessorized an army green jumpsuit with a neon pink headband back then? *facepalm*

Before I even read the name I knew where this was! I have only ever passed through Kamloops, yet you have captured it so recognizably.
A beautiful, neon rendition!
As for the 80's style, no you were not the only one. Black stir-up pants with contrasting, mismatched, neon scrunchie socks! (think a cross between leg warmers and socks!) 1 neon pink sock, 1 neon orange! My mother was so embarrassed.

Really? You know The Loops? Awesome.
Ah yes. I had hot pink legwarmers, worn with a jumpsuit and accessorized with a matching headband. This is the main reason why I hate the old Reagan/Mulrooney era. The economics of excess always seem to translate into horrifying fashion choices.

Thank you very much for that! I love the colors as well, but for the life of me, I can't think of any decorating scheme that would match!

Oh, sorry, I can't make link. But if you open Google Graphic and write: "Tove Jansson", you'll see her and drawings.

I like the fact that she is a cartoonist as well as a painter! I must say I've never heard of her in Canada, but her children's books seem lovely and whimsical, a bit like Sandra Boynton (a children's author here).

Not him, but her. She was very good writer and drawer for children. But I think her books are very good for adult people.
Don't you know her books about Moomins? Really? We in Europe know it very good. Look as other culture.
Greetings.

Your choices of particular pinks and oranges are representitive of a mind able to listen in between the common channels. It is an interesting and unusual color palette that you have settled upon to build this sloshing, swirling memory of a painting. Your abilities make me want to paint.

You are too kind as always. I like the "sloshing, swirling" adjectives. That is very much how Kamloops exists in my head at times.
