Description EDIT: Big shoutouts to for helping me improve this guy's colors! Go look at his lovely paintings right now!

I also changed his tail spike to be a little less pathetic and have a bit more interesting shape. Now for some more details about Ladon!

-his fangs retract neatly into his mouth like a snake's, but he will bare them to look as menacing as possible!
-the rings on his back function like those of the blue ringed octopus: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNxJwC… <---click for a somewhat dramatized presentation of a fascinating animal
-he will also flash the bright colors on his wings and belly when threatened

Ladon originated in a village caught in the crossfire of a battle between the volcano and northern ice dragons. He was summoned by a young boy, who asked the demonic creature to protect his home. Because Ladon derives power from human souls, the child offered his own to the beast to trade. Ladon gobbled up the boy, ended the battle, and disappeared into the shadows.

Ladon's design breaks some rules for sure, mainly having a ridiculously long and thin body (snake with legs???) and wing membranes that don't attach very far along the body. I had to think about the balance I wanted between exaggerated and natural elements, and I think I'm happy with what I ended up with, leaning more towards the exaggerated. He's not a natural creature; his current form was created by magic. I'm most willing to concede on the golden eye, since though it is another representative aspect of his character, it probably doesn't flow well enough with the rest of his colors. What do you guys think? No on gold eyes? Are the bright colors a good representation of a venomous character or too eye killing and need reworking? Would the wings look better with some kind of pattern? Feel free to voice any concerns with his design.

Name: Ladon

Species: unknown

Forms: dragon, snake

Element: Shadow

Other abilities: venomous bite

Gender: Male

Age: unknown

Ladon is a creature born from the power of one of the two deities of his world, who is represented by a black snake. His unnatural body must be sustained by the consumption of human souls. These fuel his metabolism, venom production, flight, and elemental power, and failure to provide himself with soul energy will weaken his abilities, ultimately resulting in his death. Venom and shadow are particularly draining on his reserves, so he will often take measures to conserve the use of these powers, including producing a less potent venom, delivering a reduced amount to the bite victim, and using them overall as a last resort. He can also transform into a snake, a form that costs less energy to maintain and lends itself well to staying hidden.

He has no moral qualms about consuming humans and takes delight in treating them cruelly when he has a large stock of energy to work with. However, when low, he takes a more subtle approach, and at all times he prefers to leave as small a trail as possible to avoid drawing attention to himself. He must consume the flesh to obtain a human's soul energy.

His element allows him to create shadowy tendrils and snake familiars who will attack for him, breathe a powerful shadow energy breath, and travel along the ground as a shadow. With enough energy, Ladon can even create and trap his foes within an alternate dimension, where his familiars roam freely in great numbers, and his powers grow even more potent. He is the only being known to possess the shadow element, which is tied with the snake deity. Its counterpart, light, is linked with the phoenix deity and is wielded by another dragon.

Ladon can vary the potency and dose of his venom. The toxins within it destroy tissue and paralyze muscles, with severe bites leading to extreme blood loss and death by asphyxiation.

okay so the orangy red works better with the design than the bright red, and the lavender may be too much on the pastel side, so making that more magenta or fuschia would be better. with that color scheme the gold eyes would work perfectly then c: im hoping that helped! but wow this character is fantastic and this is a great first concept!! *makes plans to draw him*
