Description
Beloved Castaway Cassie gave birth to her very own Wilson on the 11th of June in 2007. This photo was taken by Bob Care, a professional photographer, about an hour after the little one was born. Mom and son were spending special time together when the photo was taken.Photo taken at the Marine Mammal Conservancy (MMC), Key Largo, FL, during the late afternoon hours.

Cool. I was going to ask where it was taken! i was pretty sure it was taken in florida because of the water. I went down there for christmas and the dolphins would swim in the river right by the house. They are wonderful creatures and this picture really shows the strong and beautiful bond that mother and child share.

Yes, I totally agree with you about the beautiful bond between beloved Castaway and Wilson - the extremely special mother-son pair! This photo definitely says it all! I do thank you so much for stopping by to comment on Castaway and Wilson.
I am glad you got the chance to be in Florida this past Christmas. Where in Florida did you stay? You mentioned that you saw some dolphins swimming in a river. Which river?
I was in Florida a year ago and was able to spend the time with dear Castaway at Dolphins Plus. I was not sure if you had the chance to check my dA profile page, but I dedicated my current journal entry to both Castaway and Wilson. [link] You may want to check it out when you get a chance. I'd greatly appreciate it!

I was staying in Sebastian, Florida and the river I was talking about was the Sebastian River. The house I was staying at was right on the river so you could walk ont on the dock and see the manattes and dolphins swim by on their way out to the ocean.
I am told that the specific population of bottle nose dolphins that live in the river are native to that area and nowhere else.
They are surely a pleasure to watch and are one of the most beautiful animals out there.
Thanks for the link to your journal. It was very kind of you to dedicate that entry to Castaway and Wilson.
Beautiful picture. I hope to see more in the future.

I am so glad that you had the opportunity to enjoy watching the manatees and the dolphins swimming by on their way into and from the ocean. I do hope that you will get the chance to do it again when you return to Florida.
Yes, there are many dolphins that are native to their respective areas along the entire coast of Florida, and they are called 'resident dolphins' (i.e., inshore dolphins).
There are also dolphins that live offshore, and since they reside well away from the shore, you do not get to see them unless you venture out to the open sea by boat. Chances are that you'd spot some offshore dolphins whenever they break the water surface. In contrast to inshore dolphins, offshore dolphins are a bit larger and do show some obvious physical differences.
I do thank you so much for your kind words about Castaway and Wilson! You mentioned that you stayed in Sebastian. It is not too far from Vero Beach, where Castaway originally stranded back in November of 2006. She ended up on the beach in the Castaway Cove area. This is how she got her name.
