It's been a long time since I drew this Emohog.Lol kidding about the emo part.
I used to love this guy. Now I don't really care for him.
Idk what he's doing here. He was shrugging but I gave up on the other arm so now he's sort of doing a sarcastic hand gesture I suppose.
I was just drawing something while having free time on my fourth and fifth period exams today, and I had nothing else to draw or finish ( no refs for RQs because my printer is being a bitch and won't print shit [ RPC server not available or something like that, restarting has no effect now.
], and my dad's printer just prints blank papers Lol. )So I doodled him, then I started coloring him near the end of of fifth period and finished coloring while at home.
I used my red pen this time for the inking, it fits him at least, my black is out of ink still. ( I have to order refills. )
But yeah, it's that emo hedgehog. I love how I drew his damn hand man. Seriously. I wasn't even trying and it still came out better than what I normally do. Why? B(

I'm totally addicted to transparent backgrounds now. It allows me to actually have no real background. How awesome is that? 8D

I'm going to try to write a critique, even if I'm bad at it (I'm still trying to find a style of critiques, so it can be helpful) but here I go. Let's start this damn thing.
.Well, he is drawn quiet well, and you drew him very uniquely. (Not to mention the atanomy looks just right for a Sonic character, the character doesn't look overweight or too skinny, looks just right) But, the ears look really wierd for my tastes. (unless of course, that was how Emo I mean Shadow looked like) Other then that, I like how this is drawn, you gave it a uniqueness to it. lol.
.The coloring is nice, and I like how this was shaded traditionally. But, some of the areas (the small areas) could of used some shading. Some of the shading areas as well could of been toned down a bit. Other then that, good job on the coloring.
.The lineart (or outlines) is probably the worst thing of this picture. It may be just me, but Red lines that is the lineart just bug the hell out of me. It also doesn't match the character, since for the most part, Shadow the Hedgehog is black. (I hope that didn't sound racist! :C) If you outlined it with black instead of red, it would make the picture look better, in my eyes. Though, at least the outlines are smooth and not messy.
.The pose for Shadow is simple and basic, and it works. But, here's a suggestion: I think you could have added something in his hand, like a Chaos Emerald or Ring or something. Either way, still looks cool.
How's the picture overall? It's pretty damn good. Not perfect, but it's still a good one. I think you have improved, majorly. Just keep practicing and you'll be even better!

It's been quite awhile since I drew the style so I was worried about my anatomy but I guess it's alright, I think it's just I'm not used to the whole bendy-ness the Sonic characters have unlike real anatomy if you notice the knees mostly. xD
And the ears, I think my anthro style got mixed into his ears, since the Sonic styled ears were very vague and I hate being vague, it'll take some time for me to adapt I guess, but they are weird, but that's the only explanation I can think of why they're strange.
Ah yeah certain areas like the skin perhaps? Some areas didn't blend too well especially his skin, it really didn't mix with the dark blues I used and started going waxy, Next time I should shade his skin before fully coloring the skin so it'd show up better. And the under area of his shoe I completely forgot to color. I didn't realize this till posted it so that was my mistake haha.
Sadly yes, I had no black ink to use so I had to either use red, blue, green or purple, so it'd make more sense to use red. Which didn't work well indeed as you point out. There's certain areas being strangely darker than others and the color pencil overlaying the line art in certain areas too, but it was all I had. I still don't have any black ink which irritates me. xD
I did attempt to make him shrug but couldn't draw the other arm for some unknown reason ( possibly from still getting used to the style ), then tried to draw him holding a ring but that didn't work, then an emerald but forgot how it looked like exactly, so I just left it like that. I wanted to but I need more practice. ( and references it was exam day so I couldn't get any refs for these things. )
But thank you. And yeah it's far from perfect, perfect would impossible to achieve, but it's better than I used to do by a landslide, geez, I looked at some recently and it was disturbing. xD
And I will keep practicing, till my hand falls off or something.

Eh it happens, only not literally. I'd be doing something wrong if it did happen, but there are times where I draw till I can't feel my hand or it hurts like hell.

This piece of work is truely amazing. the detail is highly realistic. I'm simply awe struck on how well you did this work. I like the how you drew the fur. The red outline makes it look truely amazing. I love the pose and expression you have given shadow. it really does capture his personality.
I love how well the shading is done. This is really awesome, you are a truely talented artist. I'd love to see more of this type of work. You have gained a new fan of your art! Well this is all i can say for now!

Just to be sure to include what you think would be better in critiques, you have to balance out the good with the flaws of pictures, it helps the artist learn what to work on. I'm just helping you with this as someone may point this out sooner or later. <3
When I used to critique things when I had time I'd start with the positives/strengths then the negatives/flaws. At the end I'd say why I like it in general. That way it's balanced out.

This is an out of place question, but how do you make your drawings have transparent backgrounds? I tried it once but the background instead looked black and distorted. XD

I save my images as PNG, so save it as a PNG image and it'll work.
It doesn't really work in other formats for some reason. xD
